Ella had a very happy early childhood and she’s very grateful for that, she knows a lot of people she goes to school with were never as lucky as her in that regard. She had a kind and passionate mother who taught her the importance of believing in the good in others. She learned the kind of patience and charity from her rarely seen in others and in a way that really stuck. Her mother died when she was eight but her spirit never did and lived on within her.
A few years later her father got remarried to a woman who, truthfully, never could really hold a candle up next to the light that her mother was. The new Mrs Tremaine wasn’t as kind or selfless but despite that, Ella did her very best to accept her and love her. Things changed after her father died, leaving her alone with her step mother and sisters. It didn’t happen all at once but over the course of a year she went from being a member of of the Mississippi household to being a servant.
When she was finally accepted to Ilvermorny, the place became a retreat from her home, a home away from home in many ways. Old habits die hard of course and she spends much of her time cleaning the Pukwudgie house and helping to cook. In a word, she is dependable if a bit unremarkable in her classes. An area in which she is quite remarkable is her inheritance left to her specifically by her mother. When she turns eighteen she’ll be able to take her money and run far from her step mothers and step sisters but will she be able to leave the house loved so dearly by her mother and will her step mother even let her leave? Ella doesn’t know the true extent of her inheritance and she doesn’t know her stepmother’s plans to take it for herself.
