Mthunzi was born in South Africa. Everything was going well for the young boy until he fell ill at age 6. His parents were poor and couldn’t afford the doctor in town so they took their son to see the witch doctor. He informed them that their son wasn’t ill. He had been chosen to be an Isangoma by the divine beings. Once the fever was over, Mthunzi’s parents let him regularly visit the witch doctor to learn the ways of being an Isangoma.

At age 21, Mthunzi stopped aging. No one quite understood why. Even his mentor was astonished. He had never seen a case like Mthunzi’s before. Medical professionals from all across the world came to see the weird case of the Bantu man who didn’t age. It became so troublesome that Mthunzi became a hermit, hiding away from the world and only seeing patients when there was no hope. 

Eventually, the government set out to remove Mthunzi from the land his parents saved to buy. When he refused to leave, they tried to use force. The men crossed the property line and died instantly. Mthunzi didn’t know at the time but it was his fault. His power to heal also had a dark side. He was able to make people ill to the point of death and that terrified him.

Mthunzi fled South Africa and went to Crossroads, where he works as a healer. He tries his best not to allow the dark side of his powers out but sometimes there are creatures that tempt his will power.

Ali Stone || Formerly magicfolk, becoming a ghoul || 28

Ali was always very good at magic, especially spell work. She had a close relationship with her mother and grandmother and learned a lot from them, especially about spells to ward off evil. She was always the sort to have a lot of human friends and shelter those who were weaker than she was. The older she got, the more powerful she became and the more she helped people. People were rarely jealous of her gifts because she used them for so much good.

Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished and her desire to do good would be her undoing. The past few months, ghouls have been appearing in crossroads, a supernatural creature once considered to be amongst the rarest. She had been saving humans from being devoured by them but before long, she was bitten and slowly she is losing her magic. She is determined not to become a ghoul, to do all she can to prevent the change. She promised herself that she would not live a single day as a ghoul and she intends to hold herself to that. In the meantime, she works at a spell casting supply store as a clerk and a spell technician.

Blake Sparks || Magicfolk || 23 years old ||

Blake was born an awkward and confused child to a normal mundane family, yet had somehow gained the ability to do magic, despite the fact that he really just wanted to be a normal guy.  He kept his magic a secret from everyone, including his sister who he was extremely close to, and made it his goal in life to do everything the hard way.  He went through his school as a social outcast, up until 11th grade when he finally began to fit the standard definition of a “hot guy”.  After that, it seemed like his life quality only seemed to get better and better, as people tended to gravitate toward his open and kind personality.  However, it soon became apparent, that the friends he thought he had were only friends with him because of his looks, and his kindness.  He soon found himself taken advantage of almost perpetually, and as his senior year came to a close, that hadn’t changed.  Blake still has issues of trusting too easily and falling in love instantly with people who are no good for him.

One day, he received a brochure in the mail for Crossroads University.  He hadn’t remembered even showing any interest in attending college, so he gave the brochure to his sister to help her out of her funk.  After she got accepted, he got a normal job as a gas station attendant, just living day to day and trying to be a regular person.  However, this changed when he received a visit from a cloaked figure.  The figure told him that he was a recruiter from Crossroads University, and he wanted to make sure that Blake had gotten the schools information.  It was then that the cloaked man told Blake just exactly what the University was for.  It was for people like him- supernatural creatures- to get a higher education without having to hide what he was.

Blake was horrified.  He had just sent his all too human sister to the school!  Packing up his things, he left for Crossroads that night, under the guise that he had decided to attend school with his sister.  He hastily signed up for healer classes, but that isn’t important to him right now.  His only concern is to keep his sister from harm, and to atone for the mistake that might cost both of them their lives.

Sage Wilamette || Elemental || Age: 20

Sage Wilamette doesn't even know her real name. At the age of fifteen, she was found unconscious in the Wilamette State Park with the word "Sage" written on her hand. It was assumed that the word written on her hand was supposed to be a clue as to who she was. Days went by and no one came to claim the teen. With no memory, Sage free to name herself. From then on, she was known as Sage Wilamette

During the following three years, Sage lived in an orphanage. While she was there she learned she was able to make small rocks move and spark small fires. She could whisper commands to the dew in the morning, spelling out names to scare the smaller children and call upon a breeze on a hot humid day. As time ticked on she unlocked more and more of her powers.  

When Sage left the orphanage after aging out, through word of mouth, she found her way to Crossroads, acquiring two souls along her journey. Sage used one of the souls to enroll at Crossroads University where she majors in Elemental Studies with a minor in Dream Interpretation. The soul only paid for her schooling and housing but it doesn’t pay for anything else. Sage works as a bartender in the downtown area to make ends meet. 

While Sage is making a life for herself in Crossroads, there is a nagging question, who is she? Doctors informed her that the odds of her regaining her memories were slim. The first hint at a memory is a reoccurring dream of being in the woods alone. Every time she has the dream, a figure approaches and as it is about to reveal who it is, she wakes. Is it a memory? Or is it an omen? Sage doesn’t know.
