#PrideBookstagram Day 9: The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang • Today is the last day of #TakePrideInReading’s first weekly prompt, Breaking the Binary, and this book absolutely broke the binary for me. 😊 The titular Prince, Sebastian, has a secret: he likes to wear dresses! 👗 And only one other person, Frances, the dressmaker, knows it and she eagerly helps him become Lady Crystallia, the most fabulous fashion icon of their time. But problems arise when it becomes clear that to continue helping her friend, Frances must also keep the truth about her work secret. The Prince is adamant about living a double-life in the present - it’s what his heart truly desire, but the Dressmaker is conflicted about her own future and she has to make a difficult choice to pursue what really makes her happy. • The unconventional premise is the first thing that draws people into this graphic novel, but I’m sure it’s the layered storytelling (and amazing illustrations!) that makes it unforgettable. Everyone already knows only revealing the truth will set people free, but what if it isn’t your truth to tell? What if freeing yourself from the secrets will imprison another person, someone you hold dear, into a cage of despair and loneliness? This are Sebastian’s and Frances’ dilemma, and the way this conflict is handled in the story is remarkable, respectful for the enby representation, and that scene of acceptance, for Sebastian’s part, is fulfilling esp to anyone who’s had to go through something similar. • 5ever grateful to @chachicsbooknook for letting me and a bunch of our friends read your copy! 💝 . . . . #bookstagram #bibliophile #booknerdPH #bookworm #instabooks #bookish #alwaysreading #bookstagramersPH #booksofig #LoveWins #ResistTogether #ThePrinceAndTheDressmaker #JenWang #graphicnovel #diversebooks #diversereads #diverseromance #QueerLit #PrideMonthBookRecs #PrideReads #Pride https://www.instagram.com/p/ByfkoSqAE7T/?igshid=1g5k4hf1n31mo
