I catch myself doing this when I get angry and react to things I don’t need to, or allow someone’s opinion have a voice in my head when it doesn’t matter. Giving away your power can be felt in big and small ways but it always takes away from you. Maybe it looks like fear, or insecurity or lack of self-love. Life Lessons #8

I was speaking with my partner and crime yesterday about the past couple months. I was telling her how angry I was by all the failures and the lack of guidance.

Background: I am currently working on my thesis and was angry that I have  so many questions about how to best approach the project but I find that there’s no one I can turn to. I have to basically fill in the gaps on my own (side note: I love my research advisor but this isn’t her field of expertise).

Lesson: In life (more specifically in school) you have to be willing to learn it on your own. No one will teach you, no one will help you (If you do find someone that does be EXTREMELY grateful). Thinking back, this reminds me of what made a difference in college. I feel a lot of my peers didn’t always realize that it’s not that they had a problem (not smart enough, etc.) it’s that the teaching was poor and they needed to take the necessary steps for their own learning in order to succeed.

Moving forward: I hope the next time I find myself in an academic setting I’ll remember this lesson. I’m frustrated that I forgot it, but maybe this is the Lord forcing me to realize this in order to prepare for down the road.
