Found this flashback in my mother’s Bible. #GarrettCobbs was in kindergarten at Sparkman Elementary School (better known as Plainview), Hartselle, AL. I was so surprised when they called and said he had won overall school but for Special Education. I explained when the challenge started that Garrett couldn’t read, but they said, “Reading to him counts.” I agreed and turned our books. As every night for my boys childhood, all three boys picked a book, then we had a devotional from their Bible devotional book. They teachers added circle strips to a chain to reach the principal’s office. Garrett’s was one of the last classes in the building. If memory serves me, the challenge brought the chain back and forth. The kids showed up, reading and reading. Tonight, as was laid out in our agreement I fulfilled my part of the contract and accompanied my betrothed to the movies...just kidding! A few weeks ago my friend made me promise her that I wouldn’t see the new Kingsmen movie without her so tonight we went to do just that. The movie ended up being absolutely hilarious and dare I say, in my opinion better than the first, plus Channing Tatum isn’t to bad to look at. ;)

Our full night consisted of grabbing dinner, coffee and a snack and finally the late showing of the movie before I eventually dropped my friend off at her house. I then headed home myself, collapsing into my bed at around 1 a.m.. Tomorrow is going to be quite a groggy day indeed, but well worth it! Today’s random act of kindness: making the time count with those who matter.

Today I had a couple things already planned out when my best friend texted me asking if I wanted to get breakfast, heck yes! Being that I already had plans that were going to slightly run into this new endeavor I asked her if it was alright if my mom tagged along. A few minutes later we were all loaded in the car and heading to our breakfast destination. We were seated and ordered my friend and I ordering a meal and my mom just getting a coffee, we sat, ate, chatted and caught up for a long time before finally paying our bills and heading out. An interesting point to mention here, my intention was to pay for my mom’s coffee and anything she may have wanted to eat, instead at the time of asking for our bills my best friend said to put the coffee on her bill. My mom and I both told her it was alright, but she insisted. It appears I am not the only one in my immediate circle doing kind acts, so thank you to her. After our breakfast date we dropped my friend back off at home as she had some other things she was doing today, and my mom and I headed on through our day.

Later this afternoon my mom and I arrived back home to regroup. She was heading out with my dad and I had made plans a few weeks ago to accompany another friend of mine to a condo viewing, unfortunately yesterday we learned that this event had been cancelled, but we were still going to get together for a bit. As you may remember my mom and I have been working through watching all the Marvel universe movies, well I have been having issues obtaining a copy of the first Captain America movie, luckily my friend had a suggestion. I met her at “The Beat Goes On” (which I had completely forgotten existed) and low and behold I found it! We each picked up a few things and from there we headed to get some frostys from Wendy’s where we sat and chatted for a bit. Eventually we parted ways and each headed home for dinner.

It was a very busy, but successful day, I got to do lots of visiting, witness kindness being performed, and got a copy of the movie I have been searching for for days. I think the remainder of tonight will be fairly quiet for me. Today’s random act of kindness: making the time count with those who matter.

This evening my original plan was to just run a few small errands and then take it easy for the remainder of the night. That didn’t entirely end up happening, while planning my trip that’s coming up in the new few weeks I have been in constant touch with my brother and his wife who will be joining me at the same resort part way through the week. While we were texting back and forth today my brother invited me to come over to their house to chat about a few vacation related things. I agreed saying I was going to finish up a few things, grab some dinner and head over, at which point I was also offered barbecued steak for dinner. SOLD! I quickly finished up what I was doing and drove over. We spent the night barbecuing, chatting and finally sitting by the fire before ending our night. It was nice to catch up, share a few stories, and make an outline of plans/preparations for our getaways. From the sounds of it we have each had some different travel experiences, but now we all have some rounded knowledge on what to lookout for. Just a bit of packing left to be done and then we will be on our ways, it’s getting exciting! Today’s random act of kindness: making the time count with those who matter.
