4) Dreams of glory
My nanny used to tell me that in life you can think you make choices, but at the end, it’s life that chooses for you. This adage did great on her: she married a very rich and old English man and finished her life between London and the French Riviera. But let’s go back to your story. When Raphaël asked me to play in his first movie, I was shocked and honored at the same time. Then I remembered what my nanny used to say. Maybe life wanted me to become a great cinema star. Maybe I didn’t know I was a wonderful actress this whole time. Maybe it was finally my time to shine. Not that I wanted to shine, but if it was my destiny, I had to accept it. That’s why I followed Raphaël in his big house in Marseille where he lived with all his movie crew. There, I got to know my director and begun to learn my part. I really enjoyed my time, although something didn’t feel quite right. Raphaël was very stressed and bad-tempered. Sometimes he could spend hours screaming on the phone.
One day, about one month after I arrived at Raphaël’s house, the strangest thing happened. I woke up very early that morning. Everyone was still asleep. As I went to the kitchen in order to make some coffee- I can’t begin properly my day without my cup of coffee with milk and sugar-, I found a note. I put my glasses on and try to read the shaky writing. I shacked. It was saying “HELP” …
