Though Jack River’s new song is named Palo Alto, this gifted artist comes not from here in the Bay Area, but from Australia, where she’s already established herself as an emerging talent to watch. As she prepares to release her debut EP Highway Songs No. 2 on October 7th, she’s quickly catching the attention of tastemakers all across the States, too. Holly Rankin, the savvy musician behind Jack River, describes Palo Alto as sun-drenched and gritty, with gilded synths and electric guitars. I couldn’t have put it better. This dusty chugging, richly riveting ballad achieves a fine tuned balance between rustic folk and free spirited pop. It feels wild untamed yet cozy weathered while walking a fine line between the 90′s and early 2000′s. Palo Alto was preceded by Talk Like That, another must listen song which you can stream below.
