Nightly - Talk You Down
Over the past year and a half, Nightly has been using the element of surprise to their advantage. Making EPs and singles appear out of the clouds has left fans on their toes, but the consistent high quality of music is the one unsurprising factor of every sudden release. ‘Talk You Down’, the latest EP from Nightly, came with very little notice and has left possibly the largest impact on fans.
Nightly had recently released stripped down versions of their last 2 singles, but they stepped back into the light of full production with the newer tracks on this EP. In the past, analog instrumentation like percussion and guitar have been at the forefront of the band’s sound, but with these newer tracks, they’re exploring just how deep into the waters of digital production/instrumentation they can go. After their 2018 collaboration with Ayokay, the dive into electronic elements has been more prominent, but very welcome by their leagues of new fans.
My personal favorite track off “Talk You Down” is ‘Twenty Something’ due to the vaguely ambient properties of the song. The more calm, elongated tones are something that Nightly had not explored up until this track, but I am hoping that they continue to utilize these elements in their upcoming releases. This song is the first proper love song that the band has released, and it feels like the more gentle disposition of the track fits that theme more than perfectly.
Unlike the release of this EP, Nightly is currently teasing the release of tour dates at some point in the near future. We’re excited to see where they head after their successful headline tour earlier this year. Make sure you’re following Nightly on all social media to stay up to date!
