A rewrite idea - Talon Saga
Just finished reading the Talon Saga and wondered what would have happened if Dante wasn't so power hungry and he actually cared for his sister.
So everything starts practically the same, Dante is still pretty confident about their assimilation and Ember is exactly the same.
So on the day in the smoothie hut when they see Riley Dante doesn't report him to Talon.
"I think he is trouble, we should just stay away from" is the vibe I get from him in that moment.
So because Dante didn't report Riley, Riley finds Dante and Ember alone the day after they see him for the first time.
At first Dante is still suspicious and he's not buying what he tells them about talon, Ember starts to believe him from the get go.
Dante and Ember fight about her wanting to go flying with Riley but Dante refuses. He is still not telling Talon what's going on but now he feels like he might have to if things start to get out of control.
So after that everything goes pretty much the same. Because Ember is more persuasive, Riley tries to find Dante alone and he gives him facts about the things that happen in Talon.
While this happens Ember and Garret meet and they fall in love like in the original story, only now Ember falling for him while she already knows about the weird instinctive pull she has towards Cobalt.
This sets off her confusion about her feelings much earlier then in the original story.
This gives Riley much more time to try and convince Ember and Dante to join him. And they only start their training after they've already been to crescent beach for a month, starting their training much later.
On one point Ember tells Riley about her trainer and then he understand the it was Lilith all along. Then reveals to Ember that she's been training to become a viper. This is what convinces Ember she wants to leave with Riley and that's what helps her convince Dante to leave with them.
When the time comes for them to leave with Riley/Cobalt, Dante actually agrees with Ember and after the blowout with Garret, when she get to the rogue dragons and Wes, Dante is there.
They start to run away, only they are being chased by Tristan and Garret. But then Lilith comes and tries to stop them and that sets in motion Garret's rebellion against the order.
The ones who called Lilith this time is their caretakers. They overheard Ember and Dante's conversation but we're too late in stopping them themselves.
Then it ends the same with Garret getting captured by the order, knowing they will kill him and then we get to the second book with the rescue mission only now Dante is there with them. Slowly he believes that Talon is much worse then he thought thus make him a more reliable rogue.
I like to think this is what happened because at the original story I hated Dante's character and I felt nothing towards him.
Him leaving with Ember to be a rogue, can bring more depth to his character and it adds this familial relationship which I thought was missing.
The only thing that might become a problem if the story were really to go this way is the obvious revearse harem. Maybe turning Wes to a girl could balance things. Also making Wes a girl could make my dream come true and maybe then Riley will hook up with Wes in the end instead of this weird relationship with Mist we got.
