Edward stays seated, his hands over his cane, his chin over his hand. They'd just sniffed down and caught their perp together, Edward, the Riddler, and Penelope, Black Talon, a criminal and a vigilante bound by not-so-written law; a rogue and a member of the Bat family.
There's a sparkle in his eye, green and bright. He just barely leans forward.
"Why, Talon… Was that a 'thank you'?" he goads, slow, thick, and syrupy. Then he brightens with a smile. "I wouldn't be under any other wing!"
'Under her wing' because Black Talon. A bird. Another one of his witty stabs at humor. She must have heard a hundred and one of them by now, and as Edward chimes with a pleased and hummed laugh, absolutely unawares, she kisses him square on the nose.
She pulls away. Edward blinks, stunned and frozen.
And remembering to move, his face slightly red and eyes blinking, Edward recuperates, aiming for unbothered. "I'd hate to think what he'd do if he knew!"
