Toys, Dec 2019.
The winter is long without bike racing and for the first time in a long time I’ve had a little disposable income so I have found a substitute to keep me busy. I wanted to get the kids something that taught them a bit and got them outside. We are not a gaming kinda family anyway but the TV does dominate sometimes so I figured these toys may fit the bill.
My folks could never afford this kind of thing when I was growing up as it would’ve meant buying four to satisfy myself and my brothers. I couldn’t just buy one either and I like to include both kids in whatever we do. You never know who might be the inclined to pursue a career in engineering or design if the seed is sown.
Building them was a bit beyond both of them but the boy got stuck in helping all the same. The girl has a little bit of interest but gets bored fairly quickly purely because she is a little younger. Nevertheless teaching a bit of discipline with battery maintenance, post running checks and cleaning is already sinking in with the boy. I have given him the tools, spares and a space to work and he seems happy for now.
Reliving my dream youth through my kids is very satisfying and seeing them get their warm coats on at 8AM to go play outdoors sits well with me.
