Instead of the usual Phryne and Jack (or Dot and Hugh), I am celebrating Valentine’s Day this year with a post of Phryne and Mac since it’s not just a day for romance but for friendship as well.

Like many other aspects of the books and the show, there were discrepancies between Book Mac and TV Mac, but one consistency was that she and Phryne had known each other for years. It made total sense for Mac to be the one waiting on the dock when Phryne stepped off the gangplank in S1E1 and teasing her about “traveling light”. I love the sassiness of the TV Mac and credit it to both the script writers and the casting of Tammy MacIntosh.

Are Essie and Tammy real-life friends? I have no clue. Judging by their on-screen chemistry, though, I dare say that they get along just fine. Therefore, when I saw the photo of them to the left (taken in 2019 at the Australian TV Week Logies), this quote popped in my head. It’s fun seeing them reunited on the red carpet, but it would be amazing if they reunite on screen, especially as Phryne and Mac.

Professor Bradbury was an arrogant and ignorant misogynistic, racist murderer who should rot in hell, but he did get one thing right. Dr. Elizabeth MacMillan was indisputably brilliant. She also had an excellent sense of humor and was a sharp dresser, neither of which qualities his narrow mind and pea brain would ever understand or appreciate.

Today (February 16) is Tammy MacIntosh’s birthday. The character she portrayed in Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Doctor Mac, is a fan favorite. In Death by Miss Adventure, the tea lady Martha/Dot said that she looked like a “black with lemon” kind of lady, so I thought it would be fun for us all to have a cuppa today (preferably black with lemon) to celebrate her birthday.

Miss Fisher 12 Days of Christmas (7)

On the 6th day before Christmas I send my love to Dr. Mac/Tammy Macintosh.

The MFMM Mac, Dr. Mac, is the BFF we all like to have and strive to be. She is intelligent, insightful, opinionated, and witty. As Miss Fisher’s oldest friend, she is supportive without being overbearing and advisory without being judgmental, which is a tough act to balance, but she does it beautifully. When she is not in her lab coat, she is a sharp dresser that we all admire. This dark suit is one of my favorites. I hope she will be in the movie(s) and get to showcase this ensemble again (fingers crossed).

The real-life Mac, Tammy Mac, is a loving wife to a handsome man and a devoted mother to an adorable ten-year-old son. Since MFMM went on hiatus in 2015, she has been playing a tough-as-nails inmate, Kaz Proctor, in another popular Australian TV show called Wentworth (available on Netflix now) and has a chance to be nominated for 2017 TV WEEK Logies in the Best Actress category (link to details here). Whether she received enough votes to win the nomination or not, she will always be the Phandom’s beloved sassy and classy Dr. Mac.
