Hey! I really love your edits and the way you make the colours pop! I've messed around with gif making but never quite got how to make something so bright and colourful (much like your recent Pride ST upload). Is it honestly just playing with selective colour a buncha times or is there more to it? I don't know the right term so I can't look up a how-to. Unless you can point me in a direction? Sorry to bother you but I very much appreciate the help! 🙏🙏
honestly its a lot more than just messing with selective colors but its also hard to explain. ive been giffing for about 8 years now and its all trial and error. here is a tutorial i did a while back on how i color gifs and here is a base psd i use a lot. from there here are some tips:
when you mess with selective colors, make sure to make a different selective color layer for each color ie mess with yellow on one selective color layer and red on a different one. that way if you need to go back and change something you can easily know which layer has which adjustment
color balance is also your friend! i use color balance a lot to get a yellow scene more neutral (and tua has a lot of yellow-based scenes) but also to get whatever color i want to highlight to pop more. mess around with it and see what you like!
try to mess with gradient masks or brush layers. start a new layer and either using a brush with a soft edge or low opacity or the gradient tool with transparency to add some color to the gif. i use this a lot. the next step is important though! you want to set the layer settings (like where it says normal next to it’s opacity) to a different setting. i usually use overlay, soft light, hard light, screen, or color most often but see what works for you!
the most important step is to try new things! i’ve used the word “mess” a lot in this because that’s exactly what you’re doing, messing around. nothing has to look amazing on the first try (believe me my gifs have improved a ton over the past years) so just have faith that everything you learn is one step toward becoming better!
i’ll link some more tutorials that i have found that have helped me in the past:

many many MANY thanks to the phenomenal @tamsly for this absolutely delightful commission of my feral barbarian/rogue halfling I love it sm go check out their rates!!! their art is fucking stunning
tamsly: will it still be the sad wizard?
Depends! I just used this artwork because I assumed no one would see it. But I don’t feel right about using someone else’s artwork. And I’m not the best editor.................... Oh my God, could I commission an icon from you? Would it cost less than 3 coffees?
☀ heya Vic! i go by Tams - may i be in your fandom family? Can i get uhhhhh one(1) Arya Stark? my quote would be: "art is the weapon". i use "tams does a scribble" for my art and "gifs from me" for my edits!! *party poppers* congrats on 4k!
you were added as arya stark. thanks!!

tamsly replied to your post: *screams in art block*
draw crowley and aziraphale as ducks
that’s a fucking delightful suggestion and I love it, tbh it’s mostly like a “I have things I want to draw but idk how to get ‘em out” thing but that’s very good
Heya I don't mean to overstep boundaries or anythin' - I'm sorry to hear Christmas is gonna be hard for you. Likewise, this'll be my first year without my Grandpa. We always made him a big duck since he loved it most... But, I think the thing we oughta remind ourselves is to not paint the holidays with the colours we grew up with. There's always something to add onto it and something else to make us happy. (1)
Hey there, this is a really great message and very thoughtful of ya. That bit about not painting the holidays with the colors we grew up with really resonated with me and it got me doing a lot of thinking through the day that I need to stop getting caught up in what was and try to enjoy what is. Lamenting the shit that's passed and getting hung up over who isn't around anymore isn't the way to go about things and that's something to really try and find an acceptance for.
I'm sorry to hear this'll be the first year without your grandpa, and I can't guarantee it'll be any easier next year or the year after that, but the first one is always the hardest for sure. Here's to hoping we can both discover new ways to find some enjoyment and comfort and ease in the holidays.
Thanks again so much~
