“Tsuji entered the press conference not just with the V4 version of the heavyweight title, but also the IWGP Intercontinental Championship belt. After thanking the fans for their support in the Tokyo Dome, Tsuji immediately set out to clear up any confusion.

'As I said before the Tokyo Dome,' Tsuji explained, 'when I won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship I had always planned to split the title back into its constituent parts; the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships.' Tsuji went on to state that despite splitting the titles, he still had 'immense respect for the holders of the world title,' and as a result, wanted to connect the world heavyweight lineages to the heavyweight title's.

'As for the Global Championship,' Tsuji continued, 'the Global and Intercontinental Championships have similar roles, but they aren't the same title'. As a result, Tsuji stated that he would retain the IWGP Global Championship while officially retiring the Intercontinental title. 

President Hiroshi Tanahashi would give his blessing to the decision, and officially announced Yota Tsuji as the 87th IWGP Heavyweight Champion. 'Now that the (world and heavyweight) lineages are connected, I expect you to lead NJPW into a new world with the title,' remarked the President, before borrowing a Tsuji line and asking 'are you ready?' with the champion giving his assent.”
