🫀 I personally feel like his love language would mostly be acts of service, but you’ll quickly realize he loves physical touch (you’d think his crew gives him enough).
🩻 Probably made you feel like shit at the beginning of the relationship, due to how many mental walls he has built up. I mean he did lose everything he loved what like three times now?
🫀He’s terrible with words when he’s thinking about it, but when he doesn’t think too hard he says really sweet things.
🩻 He has his moments where he gets really clingy and almost desperate— pathetic even.
🫀The type to say “please?” The intent is all in the delivery. It always works.
🩻 Has literally handed you his heart once.
🫀 I do think he would like receiving and giving praise.
🩻 Freezing hands, always.
🫀 Sadly falls into the shitty doctor handwriting stereotype. But if it’s a letter to you he slows down to make it readable.
🩻 He does like writing letters for you, most of them get thrown away though.
🫀 He loves to relax, but that doesn’t mean relaxation comes easily. He often is dealing with insomnia and nightmares at night. Even if he’s lying in bed with you he’ll usually just watch you sleep peacefully (as non-creepily as possible).
🩻 Never expresses his jealousy but you can always tell.
🫀I wouldn’t say he necessarily gives you special treatment outside of brief kisses and obviously sharing a room with you at night. Just because you’re together doesn’t mean you’re any less of a crew member and he’s still your captain.
🩻 Sleeper build
🫀 He loves the feeling of your hands in his hair or on his face, he just loves your hands in general.

Life was hard as a hypochondriac. You never self-diagnosed, your Captain was the one who broke the news, and from there he did his best to help you.
Law never understood his desire to help you, not until he saw you cling onto him like he was your lifeline. From there, he was possessive over you: no one was allowed to be near you, if you were with the crew, he had to be there too - with his hand on your thigh, and a book in the other. One time, he saw you sleeping peacefully on the couch and woke you up, just to ask if he could sleep next to you.
That was years ago.
With time things have changed, your health anxiety hasn’t, but Law no longer needed your permission; as your husband It was his duty to help his wife as best as he could, especially during the times where her brain tried to convince her of something horrid occurring within.
“Law?”
“Yes baby?”
Law was reading a book, and you had your head on his shoulder, appreciating his hands. Your throat felt tight, and you bite on your tongue.
Law put the bookmark inside the book and put one arm around your shoulder, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You relax with a sigh.
“Let me see your tongue.”
You pull a face. “It’s—”
Law was hard to argue with, even when he was silent. You pull a face that he found cute, and show him your tongue. Then, fearing the air was contaminated, you immediately close your mouth, just for Law to pull you in and cage you in.
Law pressed a kiss to the tip of your nose and massaged your chest.
“Feel nice?” Law kissed the corner of your mouth. When you sigh again, he smiled. “Show me your tongue.”
You did.
Law’s tongue hit the roof of his mouth. “What have I said about biting down so hard?” He did another assessment. Thankfully, it wasn’t anything dangerous. “Tsk. Lukewarm food for you. And stop pouting.”
You look cute when you do that.
Law ran his fingers through your hair. “What was it this time?”
You explain it to him, and he hums.
“Would you like me to do an assessment?”
Usually you’d agree. But tonight, for once, you wanted to say:
“No.”
He was surprised. Your cheeks flush.
“I… heard somewhere that uh,” You wrap your arms around his neck. “That cooking or trying a new hobby helps as well.”
Law rests his head on your chest. His beard tickled your skin. He smiled when you laugh.
“That’s true. What would you like to do?”
“Well, I don’t want to get up. Can you read to me?”
“Of course.”
Law picked the book up, rests his head on your stomach, and he reads. It was helping, but you wanted to keep your hands busy. So, you trace his tattoos, and draw your own designs with the tip of your fingers.
Law noticed what you were doing. “Need a pen for that?”
“Oh no, I don’t want you to get skin poisoning.”
“I’m as tough as nails.” Law leaned forward. “Here. I got these for you.”
Non-toxic markers, and non-toxic pens.
Your face lit up.
“Law!” You hug him tightly. “Oh, thank you!”
He chuckled. “Want me to stop reading?”
“No, keep going!” You beam. “But are you sure these won’t hurt you? What if you get a rash and the rash ends up burning you and you end up in the hospital and the ink ends up on my hands too and I have to be in the hospital too and—”
You stop talking when Law stares at you. It wasn’t a mean stare. It was soft, full of love, and you look away with a tsk.
I love him more than anything.
“I’ll sacrifice my arm if you want.” You say, and the look in his eyes melts your heart.
You take one of the pens but before you could draw on yourself, Law stops you.
“Here.” He takes the pen, and draws a line on himself. “Allow me.”
You force back a screech and look at his arm. For five minutes you stare at it. No reaction.
“Are you hurt?”
“No, baby.”
“Do you feel sick?”
“No, my love.”
“Are you sick of me?”
“Never, pretty.”
Law gets comfortable and when you start to draw on him, he resumes reading.
“Hey Law?”
“Yes my love?”
“Do you think I have unicornfartsitis?”
Law would never laugh at you, but the name made him guffaw.
“No baby, you don’t have unicornfartsitis.” He chuckled, rubbing your thigh.
You brightened. “Okay.”
“What is it?”
“Don’t know. Just made it up.”
Law shook his head and chuckled.
“Do you believe I have a diseased soul with all the panicking I do?”
“No. Your soul makes up other parts of you too. Your interests, your loves, that sort of thing. Your soul is beautiful.”
His words and reassurance meant a lot to you.
Then, as you were nearing the end of your drawing, you could feel yourself slipping into your dreamworld, with Law’s voice in the background. And when he felt no movement from you, he looked up to find you asleep. Law closed the book, took away the pens, and got you comfortable against the covers, and when you turn on your side and cuddle into yourself, Law pressed a kiss to your forehead.
Plot: Law had just received his title as Warlord after the 'Rocky Port incident. Him and the rest of the Heart Pirates decided to stop at a small island nearby to stock up on supplies. The first night that they docked on the island, they decided to make their way into town for some drinks. Once sat inside the tavern, Law can't seem to keep his gaze off of the waitress serving them.
Over the next few days Law couldn’t stop thinking about Miller and (Y/N). They had left the island but the memories of their shared kiss hadn’t left his mind. Every time the image flashed, he felt like he just got punched in the gut. Despite the pain it caused him, he couldn’t get it out of his head.
Law was so wrapped up in her that the crew was beginning to really worry. They had their suspicions from the moment she joined the crew but now it was blatantly obvious. The captain was obsessed and everyone but the two of them knew it.
Shachi and Penguin were in the men’s quarters getting ready for the day. It was early in the morning and the rest of the men were still snoozing. Before they headed to breakfast, Shachi wanted to bring up a concern he was having.
“Hey, Penguin.” He whispered, nudging his friend. “Have you noticed how strangely the captain has been acting?”
“Yeah, a little. Why?” Penguin replied, looking around the room warily as if the captain would suddenly appear.
“It’s her.” Shachi looked around as well.
“What do you mean?” Penguin tilted his head.
“He’s been all over her. Haven’t you noticed or are you too busy gawking over her too?”
Penguin rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, smirking.
“I mean seriously, Law had been acting really strange since she joined. I don’t think the guy’s ever had a crush before.” Shachi continued.
“Should we talk to him?” Penguin said.
“No!” Shachi whispered loudly. “He’d throw us overboard. I don’t even think he knows he likes her. We’ve gotta help him out, be his wingmen.”
Penguin made a face as if he didn’t like the idea yet he nodded anyway.
“We gotta get the captain laid, I think he’s seriously pent up.” Shachi said playfully.
Law was already in the kitchen with two cups of coffee when she walked in. One black, one with cream and sugar. He pushed the one with cream and sugar towards her as she sat beside him.
“Mornin’.” She greeted him, ruffling her hair.
“You sleep alright?” He asked.
He knew she slept, he watched her sleep the majority of the night because he couldn’t sleep. He was too busy worrying that they’d end up seeing Miller again. He couldn’t figure out why the image of them kissing wouldn’t leave his brain.
“Yeah, not too bad. I noticed you were up late though. Is everything alright? You don’t sleep much.”
She noticed
“I’m sorry if I kept you up. I was just up going over some medical documents.” He lied.
“No it’s okay you didn’t keep me up.” She smiled warmly in his direction.
That made something in him stir. Breakfast went well as it always did. The crew chatted and laughed as they ate. Law had a busy day today that didn’t revolve around (Y/N). He had new medical journals to read in his office. Not to mention he had some new Sora comics he hadn’t got to read yet.
(Y/N) was busy thoroughly cleaning up the kitchen as she did once a week per Law’s request. It was her space now. Almost like how the med bay was Law’s office and space. While those two were busy the rest of the crew was gathered together in the common area discussing their captain’s affliction.
The Heart Pirates all sat in the common area silently, waiting for the first one to speak up. No one felt it was their place to bring it up. Yet they were all equally concerned. The first one to finally say something was Ikkaku.
“We need to talk about the captain.” She stood, walking to the center of the room.
“About what exactly?” Jean Bart’s much deeper voice spoke up.
“You know damn well what.” Ikkaku said, placing both hands on her hips.
“The captain has been acting really strange ever since she joined.” Shachi said, arms crossed over his chest, his expression unusually serious.
“But I like (Y/N)!” Bepo squealed nervously.
“That’s not the issue, we all like her. But she’s been making him act strangely.” Ikkaku looked almost regretful as she spoke.
“He’s just crushing really hard right now. I don’t think he’s ever had a crush before besides Poison Pink from his Sora comics.” Shachi snorted.
Penguin and Shachi giggled together. The rest of the crew didn’t look amused. Ikkaku sighed, rubbing her hands down her face frustratedly.
“Guys, this is serious. We need to confront him. Maybe if we make him aware of his feelings he’ll come out of this weird phase he’s going through.” Ikkaku recommended.
“No way! He’ll flip!” Penguin shit up from his chair.
“Then why do you recommend we do? He’s starting to become negligent.” Ikkaku huffed.
“We should set them up!” Bepo said excitedly.
“So he can become even more distracted?” Jean Bart added.
“Oh come on you guys, the captain deserves love too!” Shachi encouraged.
“You all are impossible….” Ikkaku mumbled, seemingly defeated.
“I say we talk to them both individually and see what they think of each other.” Shachi suggested.
“And what do you suggest we say to the captain?” Ikkaku said , irritated.
“I’ll talk to him. I’ll just be upfront about it. I’ll ask him if he likes her.” Shachi said confidently.
Ikkaku and Bepo face-palmed.
“Right, because that will go over well….” Penguin sniggered.
Law was in the kitchen after lunch, pouring himself another cup of coffee to combat his lack of sleep. For once he was actually thinking about his work he had piled up instead of (Y/N). That was until Shachi walked into the kitchen, ready to confront him. Just as Law was preparing to leave—
“Hey captain!” Shachi called out.
Law didn’t reply, he just stopped in his tracks, looking over his shoulder with his usual unreadable expression.
“I wanted to ask you something.” Shachi said nervously, fidgeting with his fingers.
“Can it wait? I’m busy.” Law said coldly.
“No. It’s important.” Shachi lied.
Law rolled his eyes before turning to fully face him.
“Okay, what?” His tone indicated he was already in a foul mood.
“So, umm…. How do you feel about (Y/N)?” Shachi asked warily.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Law crossed his arms over his chest, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
“W-what I mean is… Do you… like her?” Shachi gulped.
Law blinked in confusion.
“Like her? Of course I like her. I asked her to join the crew, did I not?” Law was oblivious to the true meaning of the question.
“No, no!” Shachi waved frantically, “Do you like like her?”
Law’s eyes widened immediately, his expression was one of shock before he quickly schooled his expression back to neutral.
“Of course not, what would make you ask such a stupid question?” Law tightened his jaw as he spoke.
“Well… you follow her around like a lost puppy cap. You even make her coffee in the morning! Who else do you do that for?” Shachi said, looking down at the floor.
“I do not follow her.” He said between clenched teeth.
“Then why are you blushing?” Shachi smirked.
Law immediately turned his back to Shachi, quickly bringing his hand to his face. He didn’t like her. It was impossible. Law didn’t like anyone in that way. Ever. He wasn’t that kind of man to chase after fleeting romance.
“I’m not blushing. And I do not like her. This conversation is over.” And with that, Law walked away.
Meanwhile, (Y/N) was hanging out in Ikkaku’s room. Ikkaku had invited her to paint her nails with her. As the wet polish stained her toenails Ikkaku cleared her throat, grabbing her attention.
“Hey (Y/N), can I ask you a question?” She spoke up.
“Yeah, what’s up?” (Y/N) tilted her head curiously.
“How do you feel about the crew so far?” Ikkaku asked, continuing to paint her toes blue.
“I like it here, you guys have been really good to me.” (Y/N) answered honestly.
“What about the captain? How do you feel about him?” Ikkaku met her eyes as she spoke.
“I like Law. He’s sweet. He’s always there for me. Why?” She asked in return.
“Well… I was just wondering how you felt about him. Because he seems to really like you too.” Ikkaku nervously adjusted on the bed.
(Y/N) raised her brow in confusion. She felt like there was something going on that no one was telling her.
“You see, the captain isn't good with people. Or feelings. So don’t take it personal if he ever distances himself from you, okay?” Ikkaku continued.
(Y/N) nodded slowly, still not understanding what she was getting at. Ikkaku’s face was now tinged pink with embarrassment.
“He doesn’t seem that distant, just a little too serious.” She shrugged.
“Yes. He’s very serious, and a little shy and a bit awkward.” Ikkaku explained.
She then cleared her throat and sat back up straight.
“So, you never got to tell me about how your date went. How was Corporal Miller?” Ikkaku leaned in closer, intrigued.
“He was really sweet, honestly.” (Y/N)’s cheeks flushed as she spoke.
“And?” Ikkaku’s eyes were wide in anticipation.
“And… we kissed.” (Y/N) bit her lip.
Ikkaku’s face fell. She looked shocked. This wasn’t good news for Law but she couldn’t give him away.
“Oh…! And does the captain know?” She asked, looking towards the door as if he’d be there.
“I didn’t tell him. Do you think he’s mad at me?” (Y/N) twirled the ends of her hair.
“Mad? No. He’s just weird.” Ikkaku tried to shrug it off as if she didn’t know the real reason. “He just didn’t want you to get your feelings hurt, or worse.”
“Maybe I should talk to him.” Kailyn suggested.
“You should, I think he’d appreciate that.” Ikkaku agreed.
Law was sitting at his desk in his room, trying to stay clear of the rest of the crew. He was deep in his work as well as deep in thoughts. How dare Shachi ask that? He just couldn’t get it out of his head. Why did he even think that? Did the rest of the crew think the same thing?
He couldn’t update the crew’s medical records under this kind of stress. Law decided he would try and relax instead. Maybe that would help get her out of his head. He kicked off his boots, climbed into bed and pulled one of his brand new comics from his nightstand.
It of course was Sora, Warrior of the Sea. Law was quietly reading, seemingly content when there was a soft knock on his bedroom door.
Law hurriedly shoved the comic underneath of his pillow.
“Come in.” He called out.
The door creaked open slowly to reveal (Y/N). She came in wearily and closed the door behind her.
“You know you don’t have to knock, it’s your room too.” He said, happy to see her and not Shachi.
“I just wanted to make sure you were decent.” She leaned her back against the door.
“Is everything alright?” He asked, noticing her nervous demeanor.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. I just wanted to ask you something.” She took a step forward.
Oh no, he thought. Had she talked to Shachi?
“Go ahead, I’m listening.” He nodded, sitting up in his bed to give her his full attention.
“Are you upset with me?” She finally asked.
Law blinked in surprise. Upset? How could he ever be upset with her? She always did as she was told. She didn’t argue. She didn’t pick at him or tease like the rest of the crew. The only thing that came to mind was her recent date.
“No. Why?” He kept his neutral expression, trying to seem unbothered by her question.
“Ever since my date, you’ve been acting differently. Is it because he was a marine?” She said anxiously, twirling the ends of her hair around her fingertip.
Law was upset. Just not at her. Right now he was upset with Shachi for even insinuating that he had feelings for her. He was still in denial about how he felt when he saw them kiss. He was upset with Miller. How dare that marine take advantage of a woman in need? They were supposed to help people, and here he was, putting his hands all over her like she was his.
“No, (Y/N). I’m not upset with you. Just worried.” He said truthfully.
“Worried?” She repeated.
“Yeah. That stuff you showed me in your journal, not to mention how things ended with Jett. I’m worried about you.” His expression was much softer now.
That soft look in his eye was reserved only for her. Neither of them had realized that yet.
“And yes, that date you went on wasn’t a good idea. I just didn’t want to say anything because I knew how it’d make you feel if I did.” Law kept talking, he didn’t know why but he couldn’t shut up. “Also he was a marine, he could’ve arrested you for piracy and I wouldn’t be able to get you back. I was afraid to lose you. So no, I’m not upset, just worried. What you did was very impulsive.”
“Oh….” She hung her head low. “I’m sorry. But you don’t have to worry, we probably won’t
run into him ever again.” She sounded almost ashamed as she spoke.
That made his chest hurt.
“You don’t have to be sorry, I know you didn’t mean any harm by it. I’m just scared you’ll get hurt again. I don’t want to see you like that anymore.” Law stood from the bed and walked towards her.
He did something that surprised even him. He reached out and took one of her hands in both of his. She looked down at their hands. He examined her fingers and nails, even her ring. Her hand was so soft in his. So little in comparison.
“I care about you (Y/N). I want to keep you safe. I can’t do that if you’re running off on dates with marines.” He said softly, looking into her eyes with a gentleness that was reserved for only her.
She nodded, swallowing hard.
“Good, come here.” And with that he awkwardly pulled her into a brief hug.
Physical contact was not something he was used to. So the hug was quick and uncomfortable. He didn’t know why he did it. Law just knew that he wanted to. It felt like the right thing to do. It was so unlike him that she froze. The smell of her vanilla perfume wafted into his nostrils. The warmth of her body enveloped him. He wanted more but couldn’t bring himself to acknowledge it,
Once the hug broke he turned and walked back over to his bed, pulling out his comic and settling back down onto the pillows. For some reason he wasn’t embarrassed to be himself around her. To read his comics or to be seen in his pajamas. She was so real that he felt he could be too.
That night Law laid awake in bed yet again. He couldn’t get what Shachi said out of his head. Did the whole crew think that way, he wondered. It couldn’t be true, could it?
He made her coffee because they were friends. He read her journal because he’s her doctor, he just wanted to help. He followed her on that date because he was worried for her safety. He got angry when Miller kissed her because... because…
