TANDY CHIPPERTON: ROBOT SPECIFIC PRIDE FLAGS + THEIR MEANINGS

Note: This is a lore post! These aren't intended to be real pride flags but if you want to use them be my guest, my worldbuilding obviously isn't real and you can't appropriate robot culture or anything. HOWEVER many of these flags aren't accessible because of their highly saturated colours, this isn't an issue on print but is on screens, try not to blast peoples eyes with these flags without warning.

for that reason, these flags will be shown in deviantart stamp form!

About inaccessibility of these flags within the world itself: Robots don't experience eye strain because they don't have eyes to strain and no epilepsy/migraine like conditions in robots have been linked to photosensitivity, so these flags were made by robots for robots. However, in circles where robots and humans communicate online any incredibly bright flags are often desaturated or tagged to prevent issues.

Some robots argue this is yet another way humans impede on robot spaces and make them cater to them, although a lot of these arguments are quickly shut down as... well its not like people choose to get eye strain on purpose.

RGB PRIDE FLAG

this is the first robot specific pride flag, showing up in the mid to late 2000s, It is the most popular robot pride flag and it is meant to represent robots specific relationship with queerness that is separate from human experiences. Particularly relating to gender, as many robots feel an inherent disconnect to human social standards of gender + sex. Robots are often built with human standards in mind and some feel resentment for having these bodies/identities assigned to them without their consent. This flag coincides with the Human Gender Rejection or Reject Gender Binaries robot queer movement.

The colours, of course, are the RGB colour model seen on a lot of digital screens and are the colours that make up a lot of robots faces. While the colours on the flag weren't initially made to have specific meanings in mind a few have cropped up, though none of them are official. Some versions of this flag also include a white stripe, though the 3 colour version is the most common.

CYMK PRIDE FLAG

Made in the mid 2010s, this pride flag was made as an RGB pride flag alternative that was made to be more inclusive of robots that don't have RGB screens, while this isn't just limited to robots with electrowetting displays or ones that print their faces but made to be inclusive to all robots, not just the more conventional ones. The flag is often used by robots who are more human in appearance and experience unique issues because of that. It's also made to symbolise the connection between robots and humans and can often be seen as a stand-in for a "robot ally" pride flag for humans. It's usually referred to as the "printer pride flag" in casual discussion, though this term has been used in a more pejorative way by robots who aren't interested in the whole "loving humans" thing and detest the flag or by ignorant humans.

WIRES FLAG

While similar to the CYMK flag in looks this flag is actually predates the CYMK flag, although tried to combat the similar issue of being more inclusive of robots who don't have RGB screens, instead focusing on the common colours of wires (Blue, Red, Yellow and Black) found in robots and well, all robots have wires! Initially, the flag had some push back due to many robots associating wire colours with violence and injury, some at the time even thinking the flag was made by a human troll rather than a robot.

Nowadays, the flag itself fills a similar role in robot queer spaces as leather/kink/pride flags do for humans and is also used in robot punk spaces.

GREEN COLOUR VISION FLAGS:

Above is the rainbow pride flag, colour shifted to be clearer to robots with green monochromatic vision. While robots with this kind of vision tend to be older and aren't necessarily in many online pride spaces, it still serves to be helpful in real life pride events. This doesn't mean these flags don't show up in online spaces, quite the opposite, green shifted pride flags are often put on many robot pride related media online not just to be accessible to robots with monochromatic vision but also symbolically to represent robot disabilities as a whole. It's used to advocate for proper support for disabilities robots face that are overlooked and more support for adequate robot medical resources.

Above is the trans flag colour shifted to be more clear for green vision. This one displays the trans symbol in it for extra clarity. Trans robots will also use this as a robot specific trans pride flag. Many human pride flags are green shifted for robot queer pride spaces, with varying success (many need symbols to be properly legible).

and of course the RGB flag made to be more visible for robots with green vision! This flag is often used as a disability pride flag for robots.

Sorry this is a wordy post, I want to write more about Tandy Chippertons world building and thought this would be a fun thing to talk about, I'm sure there's dozens of robot pride flags made by robots in universe that aren't listed here, these are just the popular ones
