Currently reading Priory of the Orange Tree and the difference in pacing between the character povs is just wild to me. Like everyone else would be like "Murder. Explosions. Six people I know died. I got promoted 3 times. 4 more assassins defeated." Meanwhile Tane would be over here like "I woke up. I got dressed. I went outside. I got in the palanquin. My legs hurt from sitting here."

after rereading Priory I'm even more 🤔 at readers who like Tané but dislike Niclays because like. They're. They're literally the same. They were both willing to fuck up everyone around them to get a chance at the life they believed they deserved. Niclays just realised and regretted it after Tané and like, yeah, it's actually harder to realise you're wrong and that you should work on yourself when you're that old. He's 70 and she's 20. He has no one (except Laya towards the end) and she has a fucking GOD on her side. No shit he's gonna take more time to realise his wrongdoings and begin to make amends.

Justice for my goat Niclays Roos he did a lot of shit wrong but in the end he realised he had fucked up and tried to do good in the only way he knew. We stan a realistic flawed character in the Realistic Flawed Characters book series. And we also stan the honourable Tané Miduchi ♡
