Operation Goldilocks || Rapunzel
As a Guardian, there were a lot of things that Jack took notice of--things that he probably would never have taken a second glance at a few months ago (or even a few weeks ago). Things like the curl of a branch before frost coated it and how the whites in a child's eyes widen whenever they saw snow. His snow.
Before, it wasn't a big deal to him: he watched them have fun and thought about nothing but himself--focused on his well-being. Crazed on making them notice him. Now, he just liked seeing them. The thought of the children's happiness gave him solace, and it didn't matter that not a lot of them could see him. It just made it all the more worth it whenever he found a new believer. He'd laugh at the children running around the snow, toss a couple snowballs at a particularly dry winter coat, and go to North's place to bother the Yetis.
Life as a Guardian was good. Until he met the girl.
He hadn't so much as met her as he did see her, like all the other children he watched over. But she was different--older, and she wasn't running around in the snow. She stayed behind a windowpane: every day and every night. Whenever Jack saw her, she was always at the same place: staring up at the sky, wearing a pink dress with a green speck near her cheek, long hair cascading down her shoulders in golden strips. Jack noticed her all the time--saw her whenever he was on his way to North's.
And he noticed her sad, green eyes yearning for something different.
