Im still in the planning stage of my planted 20g high, and I got a Aquaticlife edge light for it (it was a really good deal) and was wondering what sort of plants I would be able to grow in that tank. I can't seem to find any sort of PUR, PAR, or even lumen amounts anywhere.

I have heard of the aquaticlife brand (in general good things) but I have no experience with it myself. Since you can’t find the PAR or lumens anywhere I would just plant the tank by trial and error. Start with low light plants like anubias, java fern, maybe some crypts & crinum. If they seem to be thriving move on to higher light plants. Since you have a relatively deep tank, I would not expect the higher light plants to do too well with a light that small, especially since we don’t know it’s proper specs. I’m always skeptical of companies who do not publish their lighting specs, since those are usually selling points to hobbyists. So again, trial and error!

Hey, for a 5.5gal breeder would a finnex stingray be high light or would I need the planted plus? I want to carpet some HC and I have done that successfully in another tank with 2 T8 HO bulbs, but I'm not as familiar with the LEDs. Thoughts?

I’ve never used a finnex stingray before, but due to the shallow depth of a 5.5gal I would expect that you would be fine without getting the planted plus. Again, I would probably go with the regular finnex stingray just by glancing over the specs. I think if you got the planted plus it would be too much light and you’d fry your plants. If you could attach a controller to it and program the lights the planted plus would probably work better, but that would not really be economical or practical on such a small tank IMO. If you were doing a high tech tank with CO2 injection the planted plus might be worth it to get optimal growth. That being said, I’ve grown HC in high tech nano tanks with just a “stunner” LED strip or two :V (ecoxotics)

Hopefully some of our followers have first hand experience with the finnex stingray and planted plus and can offer some advice as well!
