Gilbert, Tanner, and Molly: [all look at Annie in surprise]

Ruby: [does a dramatic lean against the wall] You can't tell me what to do! You're not my mom!

Annie: [glares at Ruby] I don't need to be your mama to know that you're too young to dress like that! Git! Put some clothes on!

Ruby: You can't-

Tanner, stepping in: She is right, you know. You are far too young to be pulling this bullshit!

Ruby: But I'm not like other girls with their modest Fashion! I'm a-

Gilbert, shaking his head and avoiding looking at Ruby: Ruby. Please. Just listen to them.

Annie, arms crossed as she gives Ruby a stern look: See, you're making your older cousin feel awkward. [Points towards the door] Shame on you! Go change and think about what you've done!

Molly: [hiding her mute laughter]

Tanner: Ruby-

Ruby: [stomps on the floor] Ugh! You don't understand! Nobody understands! Eugh! [Turns and storms out]

Everyone: ...

Annie: [still pointing at the door]

Molly: [laughs, signing] "Annie! I didn't know you had that in you!"

Annie: [immediately cringes and looks at Ruby's cousins] I didn't overstep, did I?

Gilbert: No! That was great! Ruby needed to hear that from someone unrelated to her!

Molly: [signs to Annie that she's proud of her]

Gilbert: [is seeing the resemblances between Annie and Dolores but afraid to bring that up]

Tanner: You're like a scary mom, Annie. An achievement!

Annie: [eyes slowly widening in horror as she realizes she literally was acting just like her Ma did with the Pteranodon Triplets and Gilbert when they were younger]

Tanner: [points at Annie's hair] Hey, her hair is up like her mom's too.

Gilbert: [waving his hands shaking his head no at Tanner]

Annie: [holds her face, slouching in defeat] Nooooo~

[Next Gen AU; Some time after Sonny was arrested]

Thurston: *finishing up making dinner* Tanner, can you help me peel these last few vegetables?

Tanner: Of course! Say, do you think Gilbert, Shiny and the kids will come over for dinner just like every Thursday? They’re running very late

Thurston: Oh, I doubt it. They’ve been so focused on making sure the school and those bullies face real consequences and… I’m actually not sure if they’d even have the time for these family dinners for the time being

Tanner: They’ll still come over, to have some normalcy!

Thurston: The reason I’m bringing up my doubt because they haven’t shown up yet. They should’ve been here almost two hours ago. It’s not like Gilbert to be this late…

Tanner: *frowns* They’re just running late, I know they are

Thurston: It’s okay if they aren’t coming… *looks away* that just means more leftovers to put away… but I’m not sure if I have enough containers for all of this food

(Thurston clears his throat)

Thurston: I need to get back to stirring this before it burns, it’s almost done

Tanner: Gilbert would never not at least call before hand! You and Uncle Sonny didn’t raise him like that

Thurston: *not showing that he’s actually pretty upset by this* It’s okay, Tanner. Really. If they’re too busy to come over, then they’re too busy to come over. I… would’ve appreciated it if they called me to let me know that they weren’t coming beforehand… then I wouldn’t have made so many dishes and so much food…

Tanner: I understand. *gets up and hands his uncle the peeled vegetables* Say, I need to step out to get some air, think you can manage being on your own for a few minutes?

Thurston: Yeah, of course, I’m not going anywhere. I still need to pull out the fish casserole

(Tanner steps out of the apartment and calls Gilbert)

Gilbert: Hello?

Tanner: You better be running very late for our family dinner or have a very damn good reason for why you didn’t show up!

Gilbert: Family dinner? We’re actually just about to- wait, what day is it?

Tanner: It’s Thursday, and you’re well over an hour late! Uncle Thurston is starting to think you’re not going to show up! He’s not showing it but he’s actually extremely upset about it, and that you didn’t call in advance that you weren’t showing up! So are you coming or what’s going to be your excuse?

Gilbert: Oh shit! I completely forgot what day it is! *barely audible* Shiny, it’s Thursday! Pops has been waiting for almost two hours for us to show up!!

(There are some noises in the background that sound like everyone is rushing to get out the door)

Gilbert: *talking to Tanner again* Can you tell Pops we’re just running very late, and that Murphy paid us a visit?

Tanner: Fine. But just this once. I won’t cover you a second time.

Gilbert: I understand, and thank you so much, Tanner. I really owe you one.

Tanner: Don’t make it a habit. You know Uncle Sonny would be fucking livid if he finds out

Gilbert: I know Dad would be. He’d say that there are no excuses for not at least calling Pops, and that he and Pops didn’t raise me like that. It won’t happen again!

Tanner: It better not, or I’ll tell Uncle Sonny myself. Don’t try too hard to look nice, just focus on getting your butts over here as fast as possible

Gilbert: Will do, bye

Tanner: Bye

(Tanner hangs up the phone and goes back in)

Tanner: Hey, I literally just got a call from Gilbert. He’s running extremely late- Murphy paid him a visit

Thurston: Really? I guess I really was just overthinking things *laughs awkwardly* like thinking that they won’t show up

Tanner: Yeah… you see? I told you Gilbert would never do that to ya!

Thurston: You’re right Tanner. I guess I was being a little silly

Tanner: *timidly walks up to Thurston, and Sonny* Hey, Uncle Rusty… can you sign my permission slip?

Thurston: Of course! Just let me read it first to know exactly what it is

(Thurston grabs the permission slip, reads it thoroughly, then signs it)

Thurston: Just pop by on the morning of your field trip and I’ll have a packed lunch ready for you

Tanner: *wags his tail a little* Thank you, Uncle Rusty! Hi, Uncle Sonny!

Sonny: Hey, Tanner! Still prefer Thurston to sign your permission slips?

Tanner: *hides behind his permission slip, shyly* Yeah…

Sonny: That’s nice, anything specific for your dessert for your lunch?

Tanner: Magnolias cookies? Mrs. Tabitha’s recipe, please? If that’s not too much to ask…

Tanner: Well, I need to turn this in, but I’ll see you guys later tonight… if that’s okay

[Teen AU; At the hospital]

Tanner: *lying in a hospital bed, sobbing quietly as nurses rinse out his wounds and change bandages*

Thurston: *gently brushing Tanner’s feathers, just trying to keep his nephew calm* You’ll be okay

Tanner: Do… they have to make it hurt so much?

Nurse: Giant Hogweed burns can be very serious if left untreated, it’ll hurt less if you’ll just cooperate

(Thurston gives the nurse an ‘you’re not helping’ look, and she backs off)

Thurston: They need to make sure that you’ll be okay, it’ll hurt, but that comes with treating burns. They need to do whatever they can to prevent infection

Tanner: Uncle Thurston.. is … Mom or Dad coming?

Thurston: I don’t know, Tanner, I called them before I came here, but they might be out there looking for Tucker

Tanner: Of course. While you’re forced to take care of me… *starts crying* like always!!

Thurston: I know, but I don’t mind

Tanner: It’s not fair! You’ve always took care of me! Ever since you were 13, Mom and Dad always expected you to drop everything for me, but never did it themselves! They always look after Tucker! *cries more* It’s not fair!!

Thurston: I know. Edgar always put more attention on what he believed needed him more. He was never good on balancing his own relationships, it’s a very bad habit of his; of course, I’m not making excuses for him. It’s not right that they’re focusing more on Tucker, and not visiting you, but just know that your other uncles and I will still be here looking after you

Tanner: *sniff* Speaking of… is Uncle Sonny coming?

Thurston: He will come over as soon as his shift is over, he promised

Tanner: Can you ask Aunt Luna, and Aunt Tilly to come over sometime? I like their stories.

Thurston: I will do that as soon as I see them later today

Tanner: *leans his head into Thurston’s arm, still sobbing, but more quietly* Uncle Thurston… will I pull through?

Thurston: As long as you keep fighting, I know you will
