Once, there were two girls who lived on an island made of ice. These two girls were closer than sisters. Their clothes were crafted from the same animal hide, the cuts on their bodies stitched together with the same thread. Every night they spent together lying beside dying embers, staring up at the colours of the night sky. Then, one day, they decided to stray further from their home than ever before. Across ice sheets and through blizzards, they reached the eastern sea.

With their divinity taken from them and scattered across the world, a war begins to loom. In the chaos that follows, an unlikely group of people, all trying to find their way home, rise together to bring balance back to the world.

favourite line: A gentle breeze had started to take the edge off the day, but it wasn’t enough to dispel the somnolent haze Freyja was in. This close to the shore, Freyja could feel a tantalising coolness reflecting off the sea. It was hypnotising, that soft, lazy lull of the water’s edge. Freyja soon found herself gathering the hem of her skirt at her waist as she waded into the water.
