Onchan man Scotty ‘Tapman’ Bradshaw’s love affair with Ibiza has spilled over onto the big screen.
His new film is part business venture and part tribute to the beaches, music, parties and people that make the White Island the spiritual home of the European summertime.
Ibiza: My Way or the Highway, Part One is one hour and 25 minutes of feature film following Bradshaw as he swaps the Irish Sea for the Mediterranean, chasing a dream of building a party brand as big as Cream.
‘We only had a £65,000 budget, it was never going to be a Hollywood blockbuster,’ explained Scott, who is brimming with enthusiasm for the project. ‘So we had to do something different.’
There are no actors, characters are played by themselves or mates, and everything you see is what happened in real life.
It’s not a documentary, but it’s got a reality feel – like The Only Way is Essex but nowhere near as cringey,’ Scott added. ‘But there is one big star in the film, and that’s Ibiza.’
And the party island puts in an Oscar-worthy performance.
Even disregarding the film’s storyline, the backdrop of sunshine and youthful hedonism will no doubt be enough to direct a fair bit of Balearic business to travel agents this summer.
‘I wanted to cover the real Ibiza, the beauty,’ said Scott. ‘It’s not about people falling over being sick in the West End, it’s about sitting watching the sun go down listening to Spanish guitar.’
Filming began on Scott’s 40th birthday in March last year, almost exclusively on a hand-held Cannon 60d after the theft of a £10,000 Sony shoulder camera.
From a Manx perspective, the film is littered with references and cameo appearances of Manxies abroad, and while it is clear no one has ever been near an acting school, the warmth of these real-life friendships jumps off the screen to compensate.
The release will coincide with that of an accompanying book about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a subject Scott holds strong convictions about and which provides something of a sub-plot to the film.
Also accompanying is the soundtrack, mostly exclusively produced and including many of the DJ’s that appear in the film, like up and coming Yannis Gorak, Cream resident Adam Sheridan and Radio One man Jordan Suckley, alongside Manx talent Christian Clague and Alan Stacey.
Meanwhile the Tapman is nothing if not ambitious. The film has been entered into the London and Cannes film festivals, and discussions are underway for general UK and Asian cinema release.
My Way or the Highway Part Two is already in the pipeline, and Scott will look to grow the TAP promotions and record company brand off the back of any publicity the film generates.

Sheridan will visit the island for the Friday showing, and later that night will appear behind the decks at The Courthouse club at the Jimmy B’s Reunion Night hosted by Neil Cowie - 10pm till 3am.
Anyone with a film ticket will receive a £3 discount on the £10 tickets for The Courthouse party.
