For tardisness. Sorry it's so late! Please forgive me! I also hope it's similar to what you wanted. I was afraid of making either one of them work there because I was afraid it would turn into the 00Q one I wrote. So, please tell me if you like it. :D
John made his way to the nearest coffee shop bleary-eyed and bone tired. He had been at Harry's all night after picking her up from the bar she had been kicked out of. John had thought she was getting better, trying to stay sober, away from alcohol. Getting that phone call the night before - "too many drinks...fighting, throwing punches...fell over...can't pay...get her" - had been a huge slap to the face. A giant dose of reality. John had paid for the drinks, brought his sister to her flat, and had held her hair back while she puked all night and gave her painkillers for the headache. He had been up for over twenty-four hours, had just left Harry's at eleven in the morning, and needed caffeine. NOW. Black, no sugar, hot. He sat by the window and sipped his still steaming cup. He looked up when a shadow fell across the table and froze. The man was gorgeous. Sure, John often preferred women over men, but even he could admit that this man was insanely good looking. Tall, lanky, wild curly dark hair, and cheekbones that could cut something.
"Troubles with your sibling?" he asked. What the hell? John asked himself.
"Yes. Sorry, how did you-"
"Alcoholic, is he? Possibly because of the divorce. Kept you up all night."
"How can you possibly know about the drinking?" John was shocked. Astounded. The other man smirked and took the question as a sign to sit down.
"You look like you haven't slept. Clothes wrinkled, stubble along your jaw, eyes slightly bloodshot. There's the smell of alcohol around you, but it's not ingrained, so you were at a bar last night, but not for long and not for yourself. You also smell a bit like sick, don't worry, no one else would notice, but again-it's not ingrained. So, you were with someone that was sick. Who would a normal person go to a bar for and then stay with while they were sick? Naturally, a sibling or close friend. The phone, however, says brother." The man paused to take a breath. Phone? John looked down and realized that he had somehow pulled out his phone and had been playing with it for a while. Jesus. Was I that out of it? "Expensive, newer model, engraving on the back. Three kisses say romantic attachment, expense of the phone says wife, not girlfriend. This model's only six months old. Six months old and he's just giving it away? Marriage in trouble then. Which would lead to excessive drinking." The man smirked like he knew he was absolutely right. John decided to try and throw him off.
"Could be my phone."
"Could be, but it's not. There are scratches-not one, many. You probably couldn't afford this phone, not on an army pension, and you certainly wouldn't treat your one luxury item like this. Plus, the engraving says 'Harry' not 'John' like it does on your cup." He smirked again, then his face slowly fell and he tensed, like he was waiting for a physical blow.
"That...was...fantastic," John said. The man just stared, like he didn't know what to say.
"You-you really think so?" He asked. It was obvious that the guy was shocked. John could imagine why-most people didn't like other people knowing their business, especially not some stranger that they had just met.
"It was amazing. Except one thing." The stranger tensed again, but didn't look away. "Harry is short for Harriet."
"A sister. Of course." John smiled and held out his hand.
"John Watson." The other man looked at the hand like it was a snake that would bite the second it had a chance. He finally took John's hand and shook it, still looking wary.
"Sherlock Holmes."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Holmes. Please...uh, that is...may I buy you a drink? Tea or coffee? If you could tell me all of that about myself without having ever met me before, I would love to see what you know about others. If you would like to, of course." John's bravado fell flatter than he had wanted it to, but the words were already out. Sherlock stared like he thought John would jump up and laugh at him any moment. Like he was a complex math problem that needed to be solved, but was incredibly difficult, or a jigsaw puzzle that didn't seem to have the right pieces.
"I'll take tea, if that's all right." Sherlock said.
"Be right back." John smiled and went back up to the counter. Sherlock watched him walk away, trying to figure him out. He was surprisingly difficult to read. Where others would have taunted and mocked him, John had praised him. Where others would have told him to piss off, John had invited him to stay and talk. He had even offered to get him a drink. John wasn't like most people, Sherlock already knew that. He was a puzzle, a mystery. Well, Sherlock thought as he smiled to himself, it's a good thing I've always liked puzzles. And a damn good thing that I made a career out of solving mysteries.

For tardisness. I hope you like it. Your Sherlock one is coming soon too! Thank you! :D
Bond entered the little cafe in desperate need of a coffee. His boss absolutely hated him and made sure that he was well aware of that. Which, unfortunately, meant a lot of overtime and menial tasks that were far below his position. He was relieved to see that the line wasn't very long and the drinks weren't over-priced. He didn't need any more shit to deal with at the moment. He waited behind three other people, already impatient. What the hell was the one guy ordering anyway?
"Oh, bugger," said the cashier. "Not again." That didn't sound promising. "Q! The blasted register is out again!" He shouted to someone that Bond assumed was in the back. "Sorry, this happens more often than it should." This time he was speaking to the customer. Bond sighed and rolled his eyes. All he wanted was a coffee. He froze as he saw the person walk out of the back room. Young, tall, incredibly pale, lanky, dark haired, and male. Not normally Bond's type. There was something about this man, however, that took Bond's breath away.
"Give us a minute," the man-Q, James thought-stated. He took a look at the register, tinkered with it for a few moments, and then handed the customer his change. "There you are, all fixed." The customer thanked him and left to pick up his drink. "I can help who's next." Bond stepped forward. "How can I help you?"
"You have an interesting name, Q," Bond replied. The barista raised an eyebrow. "Just an initial? That's different."
"It's a nickname that's stuck with me over the years. One I quite happen to like."
"I never said anything was wrong with it; it's simply different. I rather like it as well." Surprise flitted across Q's face before it was replaced with a slightly calculating interest. "I'll take a medium coffee. Black, please."
"Anything else, Mr...?"
"Bond. James Bond. And that's all."
"Any particular reason for the amount of caffeine, James?" Q inquired.
"Late night last night. Let's just say I hate my job. You look like you could use some coffee as well, Q." The younger man snorted.
"Yes, well, my lack of enthusiasm comes from pulling an all nighter to study for a test that I found out didn't require any studying at all. Ridiculously easy. And I prefer Earl Grey, myself. But thank you all the same."
"Oh? What are you studying then?"
"Computers. Engineering, mechanics, that sort of thing." Q turned to get the cup of coffee and Bond allowed himself to look the man over. Now that he knew, he could see how Q would be a techie. He even looked the part, with pale skin, glasses, and button down cardigan under his uniform apron.
"Did you already have your test? Or is that later today?" Bond asked, curious to know.
"I've already had it. I get off at five, and have nothing else planned the rest of the day. Here you are." Q handed over the drink in exchange for the payment and smiled at Bond. "Have a nice day, James." Q's eyes didn't leave Bond's figure as he walked away. Unfortunately, the coffee shop had a sudden increase in customers and it was a while before Q was able to look for James again. He was disappointed when he couldn't find him. He suddenly noticed a cup on the pick up counter. He glanced around, but no one was paying it the slightest attention. Curious, he walked over to it and was shocked when he realized it was a steaming cup of Earl Grey. There was a note held down by the cup and Q's interest and excitement increased when he read it.
Q-
Join me for dinner. Tonight, 6 pm. The Italian place down the street from here. I look forward to seeing you again soon.
-James
Q smiled, both nervous and excited for tonight. Things were looking up, and he refused to look back down.
