REASON YOU SHOULD READ THE CHIMES BY ANNA SMAILL:
1. Queer main characters
2. Beautifully haunting writing
3. Written by a poet, enough said
4. Disabled teen representation
5. If you like AFTG and don't mind a harder read, this is for you
6. Dystopian setting (though I also agree with this one good reads review that says it's more of an alternate reality than dystopian)
7. Found family! Not an altogether healthy found family, but they found a family together and if you hurt one of them you die
8. Anti-capitalist and anarchist
9. Amazing potential to treat these characters like paper dolls and write so much fix-it and especially modern au fics for them
10. The Chimes are an AMAZING concept on their own! The government straight up wipes everyone who doesn't live in the rich people city memories and they learned that they could put their memories into objects so that when the chimes go off and they lose their memories again they will be able to keep some memories? They use music in a very intricate way to relay directions and communicate and remember things?
11. Takes place in London and is (imo) written by someone who does not like London. Based fully on just the way London in this alternate world is described reeks of someone who Does Not Like London. Based.
Please, I just need like one person to read this and help me build up a fandom. I do not recommend if you have a hard time getting through lengthy and wordy world building bc that's what the first quarter of the book is, but if 11 yo unmedicated adhd riddled me could do it, so can you.
