Opinion on split diopter lenses?
i’ve never used one.
i would probably dislike them if they were used more frequently, but i almost never see them and DePalma uses them well so I’m okay with them.

Andrei Tarkovsky
damnit bryce.
I’ve seen Solaris, Nostalghia, Ivan’s Childhood, and half of Stalker and The Mirror. It goes without saying that Tarkovsky’s films are on a level that most of us can’t even dream of reaching. They posses this strange mystical quality to them that is entirely unexplainable by a basic mind like my own.
Some directors just feel like they had a remarkable insight into the human condition and they’re trying to reveal it to us through their films. Tarkovksy, Bergman, Bresson, and a few others have always felt like that to me.
I’m literally rambling because I can’t put into words the way his films make me feel.
Harmony Korine
I have a lot of mixed feelings about Harmony Korine. I’ve only seen Gummo and Spring Breakers. On one hand I really love how he takes some of the uglier parts of American culture that most pretend doesn’t exist and forces you to reflect on it. And I love the loose and fluid feel his movies have. In a way, I love how painful his movies can be to watch. Other the other hand, well, I have some problems with the way he portrays “white trash”. I was talking about this with a friend of mine once and I think she said it best, “That’s what always bugs me about HK’s movies. Sometimes they just feel vaudevillian and exploitative, which is his thing, I guess. But idk, I like poor people. I know poor people. So it feels bad to see them kind of humiliated and made into the punch line in his movies. And he grew up painfully middle class, so I can’t quite buy it.” Though, Gummo does have a few sweet moment. And I mean, people like the characters in Gummo exist in real life, I grew up around some of them. But those aren’t the only kind of people that exist in those types of settings, and so I feel like his view of poor life can be a little one sided. And the fact that he grew up middle class makes that kind of disturbing to me.
You'll get at least one message. Here: Number one favorite film and the best use of nature in a film?
:’) thanks, dude.conversationally if someone asked I would say The Tree Of Life is my favorite film. It feels transcendental and when it was shown to me it was the first film to ever make me feel quite like that. ahhh I had so many responses to this. Wild, Koyaanisqatsi or even like Prince Avalanche, lol. But I have to say the grass scenes in The Thin Red Line are freaking... mind-blowing. The grass literally becomes a force greater than both fronts. Amazeballs.
For sure, Maddison! That makes sense. But I still think any form of advertisement for film/tv is meant to search for the audience and gain that audience. Maybe it's just a poorly cut teaser? I'll be keeping an eye out for the full trailer to see if I still feel the same way
That’s very true. I also have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by the teaser, but I’m still interested to see more just because of the success s1 had with me. We shall see!!
