Malia Swartz, a Public Health major at UH, works on clearing foreign vegetation from a loi during the monthly "First Saturday Workday" event at the Ka Papa Lo‘i O Kānewai next to the Hawaii Nuiakea Hawaiian School of Knowledge. The monthly event is open to all University of Hawaii students and the public, on average more than 200 volunteers who attend are educated about Hawaiian history, lore, and receive hands on experience about traditional farming practices.
