Tamagotchi Development Team Provides Insight on Tamagotchi Paradise Development
The Tamagotchi development team recently spoke DIME, a Japanese magazine, where they provided insight to the Tamagotchi development process. Taro Tsuji (Executive Director, and Chief Tamagotchi officer), Tomori Aoygai (Assistant Manager of Bandai Toy Division), and Yuri Okamoto (Toy Divining Planning Team 1) were all featured in this article giving insights on the development process of the Tamagotchi Paradise which started back in July, 2023.
It all started in the cafeteria with a sheet of A4 paper and a pen, and lots of snacks too! At first, they were lost, and knew that they needed to make the device 2,000 cheaper than the Tamagotchi Uni released in 2023 which was pushing 8,000. The fans were very vocal about the higher price point, and Bandai knew they needed to address that.
They also needed to ensure that the device was unique enough to stand out amongst competitors as the virtual pet space is becoming competitive. There was an idea where there was a syringe and something would happen if you stuck it in the device, and even a magnifying glass. However, none of these items were coherent, and the proposals were rewritten.
Chisato Aoygai took a fresh sheet of A4 paper over to Yuri Okamoto’s desk and told her to write down things that you want to incorporate into the Tamagotchi brand. Yuri drew birds, fish, and even guinea pigs, and that is where it all started, the incorporation of evolution and biodiversity. Then game the concept of the different fields, land, water, and sky! After a long day of work, the two of them did not want to go home, and came up with the concept of the zoom dial, emulating the big bang, and the use of a microscope.
Yuri seems quite impressed by the attention in North America specifically, calling out the attention she received at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, with fans telling her how long they’ve been raising Tamagotchi’s for.
Taro Tsuji also mentions the huge success of the launch, and the excitement that fans had contributing to the products success.
The development team even shared out sketches of the Tamagotchi Paradise original characters from June 5th, 2024!
Bandai Namco Japan Boasts Strong Tamagotchi Paradise Demand & Fourth Tamagotchi Boom
In recent press release on Bandai Namco Japan’s website for the launch of the Tamagotchi Paradise, Bandai has dropped some interesting information! The demand for Tamagotchi is rapidly increasing, and we are currently in the fourth boom of Tamagotchi.
First off, the demand for Tamagotchi is strong, and we’re about to cross a major sales milestone. There have been 98.1 million cumulative shipments of Tamagotchi as of March 2025. This is huge! And with just a little over a year left until the 30th anniversary, we wouldn’t be surprised to see sales hit 100 million units in time for the anniversary celebration.
Tamagotchi Paradise has seen a demand like no other. More than 400% increase in preorders compared other the previous model, the Tamagotchi Uni back in 2023. In fact retail stores have increased their orders to support the demand, and the Tamagotchi Paradise is off to a good start.
Second, we are currently in the fourth boom of Tamagotchi! A boom reference stop the demand for the product and the brand. The first boom was the Tamagotchi Original back in 1996-1997, the second boom was the Tamagotchi Connection starting in 2004, the third boom was the Tamagotchi Color models starting in 2008, and the fourth boom is now, with the return of popular models, color feature devices, collaborations, and so much more.
Supporting the boom are not only Tamagotchi device but also licensing with Tamagotchi intellectual property. This has been seen on clothing, makeup, and various goods. The word is being spread by celebrities, Gen Z, and many more across social media.
There is a lot of support in the fourth boom from those who enjoyed Tamagotchi Connection in elementary school. These individuals are now kiddults!
The global sales trend of all Tamagotchi products including related goods, is about 7 times in 5 years compared to 2019! We’re on a track to continue growing these sales figures and that itself is very exciting. Bandai Namco is just getting started!
Bandai Namco Japan also mentioned Tamagotchi Plaza, informing readers that sales are very strong, and they have received very positive response from the game that is now available on Nintendo Switch.
Chisato Aoygai, Assistant Manager of Bandai Toy Division, is also featured in the press release mentioning Tamagotchi Paradise’s focus on diversity, and feedback they have received from surveys about the Tamagotchi brand. These surveys have informed Bandai Namco that Tamagotchi helps learn importance of life and responsibility of nurturing life.
We even get to hear from Taro Tsuji, the Chief Tamagotchi Officer who hopes everyone enjoys Tamagotchi Paradise to. Your hearts content which has expanded range of care.
Bandai will continue working on the evolution of Tamagotchi in the years to come, and the future is so very bright!
