Kinda like Alice In Wonderland meets Ever After High but like, not.
Mirana POV
Walking down the halls with my Ladies shadowing me, I felt…odd. I wasn't sure exactly what it was, but I felt so out of place- like I didn't belong here. Like I wasn't supposed to be in the overly fancy dress or like I wasn't supposed to be adorned in all these unnecessary jewels. I felt as if I should be outside, working in the garden near the Flowers or tending to the trees (because I knew Ella didn't do it correctly- she rarely did). I felt like I should be in my room, writing poems about lord-knows-what instead of being so bloody perfect all the time.
For heaven's sake, I couldn't show any emotion without being questioned! If I was happy, I had to calm myself and the same when I was angry or a little too annoyed. I had to cover my frown when all I wanted to do was go and sob into my pillow like I was a little girl again. I had to stay quiet when I wanted to laugh at some of the people who came to court me because they were too…perfect. And, unfortunately for them, they expected me to be the same.
On normal circumstances, I'd comply, and have dinner with whoever had decided to pay a visit. But there were certain days- much like today- that I just wanted, needed, to see my friends and be, well, imperfect. Because, certainly, I was nowhere near perfect at all. If anything, I was rather strange. Tarrant had told me, as had McTwisp and even Alice, who was normally so quiet around me. The three of them seemed to be scheming all the time, usually trying to get me to do something that, in their eyes, was funny. Unfortunately for me, I was the butt of their jokes; the reason behind their giggles. This fact was unfortunate as well- I enjoyed it. I knew I was the odd one out; the one Queen who wasn't quite as dignified as the rest; the Queen who acted child-like and relaxed in front of her friends.
The one that nobody truly understood.
"Excuse me, Ladies, but I must be departing from your presence. I'm ever so sorry, but this is an important matter," I added softly, smiling at them. They curtsied and left me to my own devices, which, sadly, weren't as creative as I had once thought. I dropped my hands to my sides, picking up my skirts, and running silently to the Hatter's workroom. When I found that no one was there, I walked a little further down the hall to Alice's office. When I neared, I heard the laughter and the talking and that's when I knew. They were doing it again.
"Did- did you see when she got that letter? The one from the Prince of god-knows-where?" asked the Hatter, his laughter chopping up his sentence. But I heard a different note under that laughter, one of jealousy; bitterness; anger, as he said, "The boy was merely 17 years old."
"She looked about ready to fall apart at the seams! I was waiting for her to scream 'How many more letters will I get before they realize I won't court them?' I was surprised when she didn't," giggled Alice. I had to admit, Alice was very perceptive. That was exactly what I had wanted to say. Yet I couldn't help the anger that started to boil in my blood.
"Exactly! And then she almost started crying, I swear!" he shouted. I bit my lip as the anger transformed into hurt. Was the Hatter really talking about me like that? I thought…well, I had actually thought I liked him, which was why I hated all those letters. For a while, I even thought that he liked me too, but I guess not. If he was willing to make fun of me, then he really wasn't worth it. Was he?
"But still, I have to admit- I felt bad for her. She kept glancing around the room, looking for someone to help her out. I just wanted to give a big hug," whispered Alice. I smiled softly- this was why I kept them around. They knew how to make me feel just right even at the worst times. Sometimes, feeling stupid and victimized made someone feel beautiful and loved at just the right moments.
"Yeah, me too," added the Hatter, but, again, it seemed as if he wasn't quite saying all that he wanted to; like he was keeping something in. But who was I to judge him? After all these years, I barely knew the man. He kept everything bottled up inside of him- all except his madness, of course. I leaned closer to the door, holding my breath, as they continued talking. I heard them sit in some chair, Alice's skirts ruffling and Tarrant's hat being placed on a table.
I straightened and walked, dignified, down to the kitchen. No one dared to bother me in there, my room of sanity. As I entered, everyone emptied out and left me alone. I do wish they wouldn't do that. Either way, I could still concentrate on my potions and pastes and cakes and general concoctions. I started by making a batch of pishalver and Upelkuchen, since there was a strange shortage of it lately. It was that I realized that I hadn't been in the kitchen in weeks. I smiled quietly to myself and tried out a new recipe, one I'd always wanted to try. About an hour past when I started dancing around the table, suddenly happy. I was getting the recipe right this time, finally. It was a very delicate one- one mistake and you've screwed it up.
"Hello, hello…my, my, my- what have we here?" I blushed a dark red and glanced up at the intruder, grinning effortlessly, though I was almost certain it was a fake grin. I couldn't really tell the difference anymore.
"Hello," I said, quietly, still a little upset about him speaking about me. "What brings you here, Mr. Hightopp?" At my use of his formal name, his composure slipped a bit; his hopes crushed…whatever he had been hoping for.
I wondered, sadly, if I'd had any affect on his emotions. It was too obvious, but it was noticeable. What was he planning on doing? Why was he here in the first place? But, as I pondered over it, I realized something that near killed my almost happy mood.
I'd gone and burned my damn Caramel Spotlocks.
Tarrant POV
I walked out of Alice's office with a huge smile on my face. We always knew just the right ways to make each other laugh. The only problem was that Mirana wasn't there…that alone downed our mood a lot. Alice and I may start the laughs, but Mirana kept them going. I had spent, maybe, a total of 10 minutes with Alice today because we quickly ran out of things to say. So I decided to track down Mirana myself, seeing as Alice had to get back to work.
I figured she'd be in the throne room, sitting, staring, generally bored as always, but no one was in there. Well, she could've been in her receiving room, but nope. Wasn't there. I checked the library, the balconies- because she loved those. I checked the towers and gardens and finally, I came to my senses.
She's in the kitchen, you idiot! I shouted at myself. I just spent well over an hour searching for her, and she had to be in the kitchen! I walked silently through the door, my surge of anger done with. She was dancing about, picking a few ingredients, the putting some of them down without even using them. She'd stop, occasionally, to check a giant book that was left precariously perched on the edge of the table, next to her left elbow.
"Hello, hello…my, my, my- what have we here?" I said softly, so as to not startle her. She stopped her dancing and blushed, looking up to grin at me. I smiled slowly, wondering what she was thinking. Certainly her thoughts weren't about me, but how I wish they were!
"Hello there, Mr. Hightopp. What brings you here?" she asked, going back to her work. I blinked once and my mouth fell open without my thinking. I shook my head the tiniest bit and I could swear she didn't notice. What if she denied me? I'd worked up all this courage to ask her to have dinner with me and out of the blue she starts acting so formal? I noticed as she grew frustrated, slamming her spoon into the pan she was looking at.
"Wha's wit this Mister Hightopp?" I sneered the words, "Here ye are, telling me to call ye Mirana or Mira and no' the Queen ahnd yet ye have the nerve to call me Mister Hightopp?" I screamed. I walked around the table, towering over her, staring down at her. She backed up slowly, her face barely portraying a look of fear. She wasn't one to show emotion and I shouldn't have been scaring her like this.
"What is wrong with you, Hatter?" she shouted back, taking advantage of my pause. "Why are you yelling at me? I should be yelling at you, if anything! After what you said about me earlier, I should have you put out of my life!" My mouth fell open, again, and I was completely shocked. Had she heard what Alice and I spoke about? No wonder she was so angry! But…had she heard the end of it? Certainly she wouldn't be mad if she had heard that…Maybe, I could use this in my defense.
"What part are you talking about?" I asked, my voice louder than it was before. "Are you talking about the part where we complimented on how you looked today? And yesterday, as well? Or are you talking about the part where Alice said she was worried about you? What about the part where I said I loved you?" She was a mere two feet away from me, and the wall was right behind her. Without thinking, I moved her backwards so that she was against the wall, held her arms next to her head so that she was pinned in place, and I kissed her. I only held her arms up because I knew she would try and fight me, and yet I was surprised when she didn't. I pulled away, only to be disappointed. She was staring at me with her mouth hanging open, completely shocked. I dropped her arms and ducked my head in shame. Still, I was a bit happy that I did that. I might have never gotten a chance like that again.
"You…love me?" she whispered, still thinking.
"Loved you once, love you still, always have, always will. That's what my parents used to say and, Mirana, it couldn't be truer." As a smile began to form on her lips, I felt better. She walked closer to me and wrapped her arms around my waist, leaning her head on my shoulder. My arms snaked around her body, pulling her towards me.
"I'm sorry we talked about you. I'm sorry we laughed at you. I'm sorry we made fun of you. I'm sorry-"
"Stop," she whispered, "Just…kiss me again." She looked up at me and I leaned down, smirking, as I kissed her once more. The only other thing on my mind, besides her, was the smell of burned Caramel Spotlocks.
Alice disappeared into a cloud of grey smoke, and Hatter became I new person. I could swear the light in his eyes faded. Everyone behind me dispersed and went home to tell their families of our victory. I approached him slowly, not exactly sure if he was Sane or not. He smiled slightly at me then glanced nervously around. It's been years since we could even be considered acquaintances, but I was going to give this a shot. Before I could say a word, he started talking to me like we were old friends.
"Mirana…I swear- I will never fall in love again," he said, running his fingers through his orange hair. I laughed- hoping he was wrong- but my heart was falling to pieces inside my chest. I don't think he even thought of the possibility that we could be together. I know everything about him. I care about him. And yet, he is not mine.
"Tarrant? Where are you going?"
"I need to see Tarra! I'll be back in a few moments. Have some tea with Mother," he suggested. I stopped following him and walked back to his mother's tea shop. Tarra was his sister and she was a very pretty girl. His mother was so kind she made me look threatening.
"Ahhhh, Mirana! Would you like dome tea, love?" I nodded shyly and took a seat at the closest table. She brought me a cup of tea- with sugar and milk of course- and sat beside me. She seemed to study my face for a moment then interrogated me.
"Something's on your mind, sweety. Come, tell me what's wrong." I bit my lip and spilled my thoughts.
"Well…Tarrant is my best friend and all, but when I stand near him or our skin brushes…my heart…my heart rate picks up. Is this normal?" She laughed heartily at my question and I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks.
"Love, you have a crush on our dear Tarrant! In order to get a Hightopp to be yours, though, you need to know everything about him." I thought back through the past few years.
"I think I do…"
"Believe me, love, he's a bit more complicated than you think."
Mother Hightopp's words never rang truer than right now. As I stood, staring at him, I noticed he was crying like anyone else would if their love had left them. I crossed the small distance that separated us and put a palm to his cheek, looking in his eyes sympathetically.
"Tarrant- It's okay to cry." And those five words seemed to open the flood gates. He was still smiling, but his eyes flooded with tears. His smile did eventually break, and his shoulders shook with hard sobs. He dropped his head- not dropping his hat, mind you- and I took him in my arms. I didn't care that he was getting my dress and hair wet, no. I did care that he was broken. Alice broke him completely. He would never go mad again, I was sure of it.
"Will- will she…come...back?" he asked me, innocent as a child. I felt my own tears building up as I realized that I couldn't lie to him.
"I don't know, Tarrant."
"It hurts, Mirana…I can't stand it. How could this happen to me? I know I've made my mistakes," he told me. I listened quietly until he said something that scared the Gollymoggers out of me. "I'm sick of this life," he whispered.
"Tarrant Hightopp! Don't say something like that again!" I felt bad for yelling at him, but he deserved it.
"I need her back, Mirana." I pulled back and looked him straight in the eyes. They were dark blue. I tried desperately to hang on to the time back when nothing mattered…
"Come on! We're going to miss it!" He took my hand and ran faster than before. I picked up my skirts and let myself be led. We ended up by the Babbling Brook. I got a bit nervous as he took a gulp of the water and gestured for me to have some too. I took as much as he did, knowing we'd say equally stupid things.
"You're crazy!"
"I love the color green!"
"White's better!" And from there, they got worse.
"I don't like your dress!" he exclaimed
"You made it, madman," I retorted.
"I love you!" He covered up his mouth and I replied simply.
"I wanted you to say that…"
"But…but..."
"Oh, hush Tarrant. No one knows." He smiled and took my hand, this time just to hold it, and scooted closer to me.
"Do you remember that day at the Babbling Brook? Or the time you left me with your mother to find Tarra?" His face fell as I said her name. "Do you want to leave those memories behind by killing yourself?" He looked down at the ground, ashamed.
"Those days are long gone, Mirana."
"Maybe…but that doesn't mean what I said on those days isn't true anymore," I whispered. I tilted his chin up and stared at every inch of his face. "I still love you, dear. But if you love that Alice girl, I understand. It's been a long time." I smiled sadly. I'd never let anyone see that I still loved him. Nobody… I was surprised as he kissed me quick, on the cheek, and blushed. I pinched his arm lightly, careful not to hurt him.
"What was that for?" he asked.
"For scaring me and hinting at suicide!" Only then did I kiss him full on the lips. "That's for everything else." It was my turn to blush now. I turned to run away but was stopped as he gripped my arm. He spun me around into a hug.
"I love you, Mirana. Alice was just a friend compared to you," he whispered, digging his face into my hair. I smiled to myself and remembered that I knew everything about him.
1) He never lets anyone see him cry,
2) He'd never tell you, but he plays guitar,
3) His sister is beautiful,
4) His mother was the kindest woman in Underland,
5) He loves Alice,
6) He was strong enough to put her behind,
7) He has color-changing eyes,
8) His hat is envied by cats everywhere,
9) He remembered me, and finally
10) He loves me.
Tarrant Hightopp had always loved Mirana of Marmoreal. Ever since they were children, he had known that he would love her until his dying day.
They had been best friends, searching the kingdom of Marmoreal for adventures worthy of knights. Their friendship had become strained over the years and only now, as Mirana returned to the crown, did it begin to reform.
As he stared at his queen, his eyes changed to a darker green, with envy. She was talking and laughing with Mallymkun, the little dormouse they had discovered and rescued as children. Mirana had always adored the little creature. He wasn't exactly jealous of Mallymkun, he enjoyed her company too, he just wished he could make her laugh like that. Laugh with eyes filled with merryment and adoration, trust and hope, happiness and peacefullness.
Mirana lifted her head and turned to look at Tarrant. Her beautiful dark eyes met his, which returned immediately to their normal lime green at her gaze. She smiled and turned back to Mallymkun, saying something quickly before gliding over to him, smiling the whole time.
"Tarrant, how are you, my friend? You seem...distant," she noted, reaching out to stroke his cheek with the back of her hand.
"Perfectly fine, my queen. I was wondering, do you know the similarities between a raven and a writing desk?" he replied madly, grinning widely as he spoke.
"No Tarrant, I don't," she laughed, "Perhaps you will tell me?"
"Haven't the foggiest idea. Will you join me for a tea party later, perhaps?" he questioned, hope shining in his eyes.
They hadn't had any time alone since she had returned as queen, and he missed their mad banter. While the March Hare and Mallymkun were good conversationalists, they never quite measured up to Mirana's quiet musings.
"Of course! We haven't had some time alone in quite a while," Mirana said, eyes bright with glee.
The two sat down on a log, watching Mallykun scamper off to find the March Hare. Mirana lay her head on Tarrant's shoulder, sighing softly as wind whistled past them.
"I've missed you, Tarrant," she told him, adoration filling her words.
"And I've missed you, Mirana," he replied, kissing the top of her head gently.
Mirana smiled as he used her given name for the first time in years, wishing he would use it more often. She lifted her white head, her eyes wide and dark as they met his. They both leant forward until their foreheads were touching, both smiling sweetly at eachother.
"I love you," Tarrant whispered, relief sweeping over him as he finally said the words he had been feeling for years.
"I love you too," Mirana quietly said back, tears of joy glistening in her eyes.
Mirana wrapped her arms around Tarrants neck and pulled him towards her, their lips meeting gently.
It was then that Mirana of Marmoreal realised she had always loved Tarrant Hightopp and would do so until her dying day.

Romance between the White Queen and the Hatter throughout the film.
"Oh what am I to do?"
Mirana asked the moon above her head as she stood out on her terrace. Thoughts of tomorrow had pulled her from her resting and outside for some much needed air. Her head swam with the impending dangers they were to soon face.
'Would we have our a new champion by daybreak or will Underland be stuck in my sisters wicked hand?' The thoughts made her nerves rattle under her skin.
She looked out past the castle grounds and to what was once Underland in its wondrous state, now bleak and ramshackled. 'Oh if mother and father could see this.' She lowered her head in shame,"It's all my fault", she whispered, memories of the day she lost her sister flashing behind her eyes.
Mirana was pulled from her thoughts by the gentle 'click' of her suite door opening and closing. Although she wasn't expecting any company at this hour, she was not scared. She had guards outside her suite and their was only one person that they would allowed to enter her personal wing.
With that being said, she didn't even turn around to address her expected guest, "How long has it been, dear Tarrant? Far too long", she chastised to herself, looking at the moon over head again. She couldn't bring herself to look at him after all this time had passed between them.
It was silent for a moment before the hatter finally spoke, "I can not say your majesty", he admitted, stepping out onto the balcony to stand beside her. He didn't look at her, his eyes trained on the moon overhead, "Weeks, months, years; all the same without Time", he admitted before turning to her, removing his hat. Mirana stared at him out the corner of her eye, curious to know what he was doing. "However it doesn't matter when I've thought of you every second of it", Tarrant pronounced, hoping to meet her chocolate gaze at last.
The White Queen smiled at his affections, "I'm sure Time took those little ones with him as well, did he not?", she teased turning to finally him. "I have been terribly lonely without you, dear Tarrant", she admitted.
"And I as well, my Mirana", he murmured back in a way that brought a flush to her cheeks. She remembered a time when they would speak to one another like like this, a different time.
Mirana couldn't help the tears that came to her eyes, choking back a sob, "I feared that Time would once again not be on our side. That you would grown tired of waiting...and realize that we were not worthy" Every night this had chew at her making it impossible to sleep. She would roam the gardens aimlessly, asking Absolem in circles until he would puff in aggravation and disappear. Her usual appearance did well to hide the heavy dark circles under her eyes and paling skin.
"Mirana, I would wait a thousand more days to be back in your arms again.", he promised, bringing her hands to his lips, planting kisses all over the delicate skin on her hands. "Do you remember what you told me the night before the Horovendoush Day Festival?"
"I was a teapot of nerves and needles, but you took my hands in yours and said (I have waited years for this day to come and I would wait even more if it means standing beside you)", he recanted from perfect memory.
"And I, in the same sincerity, told you 'I the same'. Do you remember?", he added, nodding his head as frantically as his heartbeat.
A small smile spread across Mirana's face at the distant memory of that day; that was where they were to announce they were to be wed and that Underland would soon have their King.
However, the joyous news and the festivities were thrusted to a halt at the attack of the Jabberwocky and the tragic events that followed.
The screams.
The fire.
The death.
Mirana shook the thoughts away, returning to the present. She broke from Tarrant's hold, withdrawing into the confines of her bedroom. She wrapped her arms around herself turning around to the man who had followed behind her. "What if we don't have tomorrow or the days to follow? Then what do we have?", she questioned, looking up at him, panic rising inside her. She had manage to push it back for so long; a true Queen needed to be strong for her subject.
"We'll have now", he answered simply, wrapping his arms around her, "and everything with it." With those words, he pressed his lips to hers, sealing their lips together in a soft kiss.
Mirana returned the kiss, completely melting into her lovers arms. She could not recall the last time she had felt the safety of his arms around her. Her hands went to his neck while his trailed up to her back, skillfully undoing the ribbons of her sleeping gown.
He pushed aside her hair to kiss her neck before moving down to her shoulder, pushing the ivory material off her shoulders and onto the floor.
The Royal shivered as the nights breeze careened over her bare body,. Her breath hitched softly, "Oh dear", she murmured, feeling completely and utterly exposed. Her entire body flushed a warm pink, head held high as she watched her lover.
The red head removed his hat, moving over to her desk and placing in atop the surface. Once he had returned, he scooped the young Queen into his arms earning a soft gasp in turn before moving over to her large bed.
"My Mirana."
* * * * * *
As the sun rose over the horizon, Mirana had her head to his chest. She traced soft patterns into the pale flesh of his skin, murmuring a soft charm to all the bruises and scars that lingered there. The marks of a champion indeed.
"Tarrant?", she asked softly in the dead of silence.
"Yes, my Raven", he responded almost immediately if not automatically.
The Royal couldn't help but smile, turning her head to look up at him, "Why are you not asleep?"
"I believe I can ask you the same thing, Mirana", he responded with a lazy smile, peeking an eye open to peer at her, "We still have quite some time before we must rise"
Mirana sighed, rolling over to sit up properly, "I must tell you Tarrant", she began, the sheets falling to her bare waist, alabaster skin glowing in the approaching daylight, "No matter what happens on this Frabjous Day. A champion or not-"
Tarrant looked away to avoid her gaze, squeezing his eyes shut tight as he felt his own guilt take lead. The one part of his mission that he had not succeeded in. ('She don't slay.') That single factor had caused his demise. He had failed his Queen.
He was pulled from his thoughts by a gentle hand on his arm, forcing him to face her once again. Brown eyes bore into his, demanding his attention and utter affection, "None the matter", she swore strongly, with a shake of her head, "you will always be my champion, sir Tarrant Hightopp."
He was touched by her declaration and that only fueled his desire to protect her even more. As much as it would hurt her, if she was put in the line of danger he would sacrifice his life for her. He always would. Tarrant reach for her hand and brought it to his lips, bringing her back into the pillows with him.
"Mah Queen", he whispered thickly, against her lips.
"My Hatter"

I absolutely loved this beautiful fanart of Alice in Wonderland from the Tarrana ship of the characters Tarrant Hightopp and Mirana Marmoreal together especially because what I loved most about this beautiful fanart is the fact that in the Tarrant Hightopp she is putting her hat on the head of Mirana Marmoreal so that she can try it on in addition to the fact that it seemed to me something very but very tender to see between the two of them... and despite the fact that I am fully aware that in it the characters of The Cat of Cheshire (Chessur) and also The Hare (Thackery Earwicket) are also present. Honestly I especially wanted to show you Tarrant Hightopp and Mirana Marmoreal... although I have to accept that it is something adorable that Chessur is forming a heart with his legs as well as also with his tail when he is looking at his friends and I don't know about you but I would have wished very much that we had had this type of scene in the Alice in Wonderland movie sincerely
By the way, this beautiful fanart of theirs is not mine and the credits are not for me but I warn you that right here I am going to leave you the link of the true creator of this beautiful masterpiece on DeviantArt
