Obviously he's autistic and he has anxiety, but have we considered that young Shane Hollander maybe also "isn't the most sociable" because he simply doesn't think people who don't play hockey at his level are worth the effort?
This could be in a mean, judgy way, like, "we fundamentally disagree on how important hockey is, so what would we connect over? You're disrespecting my Thing by not being better at it," or in a more sad, isolated way, like "hockey is so integral to me that I don't think we can understand each other if it takes up less space in your brain than it does in mine."
But yeah like obviously he's going to make an effort to introduce himself to Ilya Rozanov, the one person among his peers who can compete at his level. That's clearly someone who's also a Main Character. That's maybe someone else whose head is full of hockey the same way Shane's is, or who might actually understand how important hockey is.
