Task 009. Arena Plans.

Do you plan on forming any alliances? Yes. I don’t know with who yet, but Training is proving I can’t survive on my own.

If so, with whom? Why? I don’t know. I like Zeppelin, Ellie, and Madeleine so far. Do you plan on trying to grab something during the bloodbath?  If so, what? Maybe something small. No weapons, though, I’m not stupid. Do you plan on hunting out other tributes in the arena? Not directly. But if they happen to fall into a trap I’ve set, not my business. What would you consider your greatest strength? Intelligence, ability to build things out of nothing. What would you consider your greatest weakness? Physical fitness. I’m thoroughly average. Who do you think is your biggest competition? Have you seen the Career girls?!?! If you don’t win, who would you want to win? Ellie and Madeleine both seem cool. If not them, one of the babies.

task 009 || tv tropes

the cynic

“a character who believes that the world is, to put it lightly, a bad place. whenever they describe something, expect them to accentuate the negative”

although freya can be known to be quite the ‘negative nancy’, she toes the line between recognizing the terrible in the world and demanding that there be a different, better way to do things. most often, action is taken against the current unacceptable status of things.

defrosting ice queen

“she is the ice queen: cool, reserved, and giving nothing away. she may want love as ardently as anyone, but she masks her soft heart behind a wall of ice”

let’s just say, it isn’t always a mask and note the defrosting aspect. freya often comes across as abrasive and combative (especially in situations where she’s expected to interact with people she’s meant to be killing in order to guarantee her own survival in a few days/weeks time. however, there are moments where her personality peeks through more clearly.

“a character who asks questions the audience would ask and says things the audience would say”

freya has an extremely limited filter, to put it lightly. her thoughts are a direct stream of consciousness and one that, she feels, gives a voice to questions and doubts that just about everyone else must be having and is just too afraid to voice.

“sometimes, they just don't like dresses with no specific reason behind it. they're just not their style“

freya just doesn’t like dresses.

as unpredictable and challenging as life was back in district twelve, freya was understood her environment and what she needed to do to survive. and her current situation is, quite literally, a death sentence. so, anything seems better right about now.

TASK 009: Questionnaire

The ultimate get to know you post, District 9 Style.

What are your character’s nicknames, if any?

There have been people that have called her Ari in the past, most notably her father, but other than that Arista doesn’t really have a nickname. She doesn’t hate them, but there just hasn’t been anyone that’s given her a nickname.

Do they have any bad habits?

Arista isn’t that great at letting people in. If you ask, she’ll open up and tell you, but other than that she keeps her troubles and burden to herself. Her small shoulders can carry a lot, but after a while they weigh on her. She sleeps less, eats less, and starts to have small outbursts.

Do they have any tattoos? If not, would they want one?

Arista doesn’t have any tattoos and no, she doesn’t want one either.

Do they have any scars? How did they get them?

Arista has the basic scars must kids have, scars from skinned knees and scrapped palms. The only one of note is a scar on her right shoulder from flying debris from the storm that killed her father.

How do they dress most of the time?

Pretty causal because she needs to work on the farm. Arista prefers sundresses or when it’s colder slacks and t-shirts, paired with her sandals or boots when it’s colder.

What words or phrases do they use frequently?

Probably oh, or I’ll do my best, or I’m okay.

If anyone, who do they trust to protect them?

For most of her life, Arista trusted her father to protect her. Now going into the Games, she’s putting her trust in herself and Callahan.

Are they argumentative or do they avoid conflict?

9/10, Arista avoids arguments. There are times she will stand up for herself or get fed up and speak out, but generally she likes to keep the peace.

Did they have any role models growing up other than their parents?

Arista looked up to her to her chorus teacher, who always tried to teach everyone with kindness and respect. She was typically the one that “saw” Arista when she felt invisible.

When was the time when they were the most frightened?

The storm that killed her father. The tornado was so loud, it was almost deafening, there were debris falling, people screaming, it was just absolute chaos. She was equally frightened when word came that her father hadn’t been seen since the storm.

When was the time when they were the happiest?

Her happiest memory is the day her father put up the swing. The two of them would meet up there after their work day, Arista would sing, her father would continue his story he was currently telling her, and they would just be. It was a very serene happiness.

What is their most embarrassing moment?

Arista has had a pretty sheltered life, so none of her embarrassing moments are super embarrassing. Mostly it is just dumb things kids do to each other, tripping her on stage during a chorus concert or hiding her clothes after gym class.

Are they optimistic or pessimistic?

Optimist all the way. Arista likes to see the good and believe in good in everyone, thing, and situation. She believes hope is a good thing.

What is their most treasured possession?

Her friendship bracelet her and her father made when she was younger. The other kids hadn’t wanted to include Arista, so her father gave her what the other kids had taken away. It is this memory and the feeling of warmth and love it inspires, which is why Arista wanted it as her token. She hasn’t taken it off since that day.

How do they spend a typical Saturday night?

Just relaxing, reading, and working on whatever basket she is weaving.

What song would you use to describe them?

Are they introverted or extroverted?

Arista is an extroverted introvert. When she is stressed or upset, she tends to greatly lean towards the introverted side of her personality to an extreme extent.

Are they organized or messy?

Arista is a neat and tidy kind of person.

What do they like about themselves?

Arista likes her ability to be kind. She sees it as her way of doing good in a world that is typically unfair and bad.

How do they relax?

She likes to weave or just sit and enjoy nature. 

What is their ideal date?

She’s never been on a date before, but Arista would want to do something fun. Something that wasn’t awkward or felt like work. Perhaps a walk in the fields or stargazing.

Do they want children? Why or why not?

Arista wants two children, in her head they’re always girls, but she wouldn’t mind a boy either. She just loves children and would like the chance to have that family feeling she has been missing.

Where do they see themselves in five years?

If she was crowned Victor, Arista knows what she’ll be doing in five years in a sense. But, she wouldn’t let that define her. Given the money and opportunities that are granted to Victors, Arista would want to study medicine and hope to help people in District Nine.

What would be their three wishes if they found a genie’s lamp?

1. Happiness/health for her friends/family

2. No more starving children

3. No more Hunger Games

Describe your character sitting in their favourite spot.

Arista would be sitting on the swing her father built. She is short enough her feet still dangle when she swings back and forth gently. This is where she feels most at rest and peaceful. It is where she works through her problems or just lets them go and just is. At night, if she can get out without being seen, she stargazes here and lets the wonder of the universe fill her. It is the reset button when the world is too much.
