Just as Monty thought the Gamemakers couldn't get more brilliant, they upped the ante. Alliances were natural in the Games - the Career pack, the outlying District partners, the unlikely sibling dynamics. But to give those a day to settle in, only to forcefully shake them up? Amazing. And on top of that - ensure there would be little to no fighting within the new groups. Stunning.

Monty sat at the bar, an unfortunate habit he had fallen into since the nice Sponsor lounge on the first floor still wasn't repaired. He would have thought for all the money floating around this building that they would have had it fixed immediately. But alas. The whiskey wasn't even good this afternoon.

"Brilliant," he said, Link approached him. "This whole puzzle conundrum. Forces people together, ensures they don't fight, and then who knows what comes next?" He smiled over at her. "Did you have anything like this in your Arena?"

Task 012. Past.

When Kai won the 108th Hunger Games, Delta was three years old. Only a few memories stuck out from her early childhood, blurred and confusing, but Kai and his Games were many of them.

Year 108.

Delta is in her prettiest aqua blue dress. She calls herself a princess whenever she wears it, and makes herself a crown of ocean driftwood that she insists makes her ruler of all of Four. She’s brought to the Reaping dressed like this- her mother tried to remove her “crown” for the sake of respect, but it’s a losing battle. Delta tantrums and screams until it’s back on her head of scarlet curls. That’s the day Kai leaves the for the Capitol. - Delta, of course, does not remember his Games. Hardly remembers the Reapings, definitely does not recall the way her family sat on the edge of their chairs, sleepless, for the entire duration of the Games. She does not remember that Finn is sick to his stomach every single day watching Kai, and does not remember that she is put behind the couch, away from the television, with her blocks and dolls for that week. - She does, however, remember the pretty aqua dress, ruffled and cheerful, when Kai comes home. The memory is more of a feeling, snapshots, short of anything concrete. But she remembers the ruffles in her dress and the biggest hug from Kai when he returns. She does not remember the tears. Joy, sadness, anger, relief. Only her own commonplace happiness that Kai was there, her family was there, and she was the queen of the seas in her driftwood crown.

Task 012: Going Home

Keelan feels most at home in their dad’s garage. While most of the family’s actual house feels foreign, despite their family’s open-mindedness, the garage is full of good, familiar smells, like motor oil and sweat. It’s where the children can always rely to find their father when he’s not at work, where Keelan snuck away to smoke cigarettes in the middle of the night before they moved away, where Keelan went after their first heartbreak. It’s where Keelan first felt the spark of belonging, or something equivalent to their sister’s impeccable grace. 

When they’re not bothering their father in the family garage, Keelan finds home wherever their Sphinx cat Sekkie is. Currently, that’s above Blue’s Auto Shop, while they hope to find somewhere more permanent. Maybe with a garage of their own.
