Powerful piece by Felipe Tornero ...i'll give a short discription on this: This is Cihualpilli Tzapotzinco, she was the last indigenous ruler of Tonala (and many surrounding areas) she is often depicted embracing a cross while stepping or having broken tolteca statues/idolos ... when the spanish came in 1530 many leaders were divided on how to receive them, Cihualpilli(and some others) welcomed them with gifts and danza..she did not want to resist due to the spanish's power (they came with Mexicas, Tlaxcaltecas and Tarascos) Many groups did not agree (they were not consulted) and rebelled against Cihualpilli's decision ....there was a battle at what is now today as (cerro de la reina) Many legends/myths/traditions were created at that battle (including the Tastoanes) The spanish won and baptised Cihualpilli as Juana Bautista Danza... Tastuán 

En  mi visita por Tonala, Municipio de Jalisco,  tuve la oportunidad de presenciar esta  danza  tradicional  de la región.  Fue una alegre y memorable experiencia.
