This dish is a mix of Japanese beef tataki and sushi. The seared beef and traditional sushi ingredients make for a tasty and unique roll.
Ingredients: 200g beef tenderloin. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 tablespoon mirin. 1 tablespoon sake. 1 teaspoon sugar. 1 teaspoon grated ginger. 1 teaspoon grated garlic. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. 1 nori sheet. 1 cup sushi rice, cooked and seasoned. Wasabi optional. Soy sauce for dipping.
Instructions: Take a small bowl and mix together soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, ginger and garlic that have been grated. This will make the marinade. Cut the beef tenderloin into thin slices and put them in a shallow dish. Cover the beef slices with the marinade by pouring it over them. Put it in the fridge for 30 minutes to soak up the flavors. Put vegetable oil in a pan and heat it over high heat. To make the beef slices, sear them for about one minute on each side, until they are lightly browned but the middle is still rare. Take it off the heat and let it cool down a bit. Make thin strips out of the nori sheet. Spread out a thin layer of sushi rice on a sushi rolling mat, leaving a little space around the edges. On top of the rice, put the beef slices that have been seared. Use the mat to roll the sushi tightly, making sure that the beef is inside the rice. Cut the sushi roll into small pieces that you can easily eat. You can dip them in wasabi and soy sauce. Have fun with your beef tataki sushi!
