My tav, Desdemona!! Half-drow cleric of mystra. history buff, poet and absolute loser
I love my tav, I really do, but he's been living in Baldur's Gate for the last 140 years, this man is not cut out for backpacking through the woods
Doing a history degree is mental cause I'll be sitting in my living room chilling and then suddenly have a this could be a good way to present this dissertation topic idea except it involves the real-time descent into or normalisation of fascism
Thoughts on Beverly!!! I would like to hear yours!
Omg I have way too many thoughts-
Beverly is a breath of fresh air in the show because not only is she a woman, but a woman of color too, who they never try to explicitly give a romance plot to despite that being the norm for female characters in a lot of dramas. She's somewhat of a... foil to Will in a way? She's incredibly intelligent and insightful, especially when it comes to Hannibal. I think that's why he was always wary of her... because she clocked him faster than anyone else in the forensics team (including Jack and Alana in that group for the sake of that sentence lol).
As someone who is going into the forensics field myself- specifically homicide- I really enjoyed her calm confidence around her job. She never really let it get her down. Cracking jokes with Zeller and Price while they're knee deep in a corpse- they make the best of it! And from the moment she meets him- she's never really put off by Will. Which as someone who is neurodivergent in similar ways as Will- was also incredibly refreshing! She doesn't ever really get awkward around him or patronize him like Jack tends to do as well as Hannibal at times. If I remember correctly, her first words to Will were something like "You unstable?" Which is just. Fucking hilarious. Beverly's seen the worst of humanity so she just... isn't fazed when she sees Will being... well, yeah, unstable. She approaches him with kindness and an offer of sincere companionship in time.
She says one line to Will that stuck with me all this time later (haven't rewatched it in like. 2 years.) This one below-
She's genuine and straightforward with him. Doesn't judge him when he asks for her to make sure he didn't commit a crime and she thoroughly checks him over and tells him he's clear.
As for her death- I think her actress, Hettienne Park, put it best when she spoke on Katz's death during an interview. She said:
"I thought it was pretty respectful. It was very clean and it was very well thought through. And it must have taken a tremendous amount of effort. I’m not sure how Hannibal was able to put all that together in one night, but you do see the next morning when he’s having breakfast with Jack, he’s in a casual sweater and his hair’s a little messed up — so maybe he pulled an all-nighter. Obviously there’s a little twist of the knife, having her get pulled apart the way she pulls apart a crime scene – but everything Hannibal does is very deliberate. So, he’s definitely sending some kind of message to Will and Jack"
And that just perfectly summarizes how I feel about her. Of course her death HURT. but without it, Season 2 and 3 wouldn't have been the same. Honestly... I think if Hannibal hadn't killed her, the show would be a whole season and a half shorter because I have a feeling she would've caught him. Not only is she Will's foil... but Hannibal's too. Jack wasn't the guy they had to worry about- it was Bev.
Also pretty sure she's the one who solves like. 75% of those cases lmao. (Like she found the stitches hiding stitches and the iconic stolen kidney and all that jazz)
hey, i’m writing a post-canon story. tell me some things YOU would like to see.
