I’m skimming news—entertainment and otherwise (especially about last night’s The Rookie episode)—and came across this Rolling Stone article that had me choking.
Viral posts and clips on social media suggest the em dash is the product of AI chatbots, with some calling the punctuation mark a 'ChatGPT h
Uhh…
In case anybody is thinking this—no. I don’t use AI to write my fanfiction. At all. Or any body of my work.
The use of em dashes is used for emphasis and dramatic pauses, for other punctuation means. Just like the article says.
I would love someone to talk on the phone about our days and trash talk our enemies the other one doesn't know and play keep talking and Noone explodes and have lunch FaceTimes and late night movie dates and all of it
had a dream where some guy was getting cut open, and his blood and organs were spraying everywhere 🤷♀️ another dream in the same night, I was running through the woods with friends, cuz we were trying to escape from... Something.... But we came across a "ladder" which was actually a decapitated alligator?? idk, it was fucking weird...
like yeah creating earthquakes and hurricanes is cool and all but the best part about percy's powers is the fact that he can get the water out of his ears without looking like a dumbass
what's ur opinion on posally's relationship through percys childhood and into his years at camp
oh anon, i have many many thoughts about this
i'll start by directing you to my posally series on ao3 (you can also find the fics on my blog). the only fic that delves into their relationship post-percy being born is part 1 of the series, but i plan on adding more one-shots to the series.
as for my thoughts on their relationship...
poseidon was definitely there when percy was born. he was there bc i say so.
i actually think he was around quite a bit after percy was born tbh. which is why percy seems to remember his smile, etc.
he was only around frequently until percy was about 1yo though
i don't think he left willingly. i think sally told him he had to leave, and he while he didn't want to, he knew that she was right.
he still makes his presence known though. somedays sally would come home from work and find a note or a seashell/sea glass/something on her dresser. or when she was in a pinch, she'd find that her rent was already taken care of, or percy's day care fee.
and yeah she had that whole 'i've got to do it myself' thing, but i think that was mostly before she found out she was pregnant. i think afterwards, she's a lot more okay with poseidon randomly giving her things/helping out because it's not just her. it's her son, and she's not going to risk getting evicted for not making rent just because she doesn't want help.
when the monsters start getting really bad, poseidon visits in person again and tries to convince sally to come with him again, or at least take percy to camp where he'd be safe.
and when sally makes the decision to marry gabe to protect percy, poseidon absolutely despises the idea (see this fic), and once again extends his offer.
poseidon definitely tries to limit contact with sally after she's married to gabe, mainly because percy is getting to an age where he's attracting more monsters, and poseidon doesn't want to risk making anything worse by having his aura around.
but he'll still help out (sally couldn't really afford to send percy to all of those boarding schools tbh, and i doubt gabe would have blown 10-25k on it, if he even had that to blow)
ik I've made jokes about poseidon sliding in as soon as gabe is gone and percy is at camp for the summer, but i genuinely think he does lmfao. they don't necessarily jump each other right away, they build back up to having that kind of relationship (sally literally just got out of an abusive relationship, she's not going to throw herself right into another one, regardless of how she actually feels about poseidon). but he starts popping in occasionally, and occasionally turns into a couple times a week, and a couple times a week turns into them rekindling what they had before, but very much on the DL now that percy knows about the gods and such.
but when sally uses medusa's head to kill gabe, poseidon pops in a few hours later. he mainly checks on her and asks her if she's okay (like, really okay, because she just killed a man and had been abused for the past however many years)
also i think this is obvious but p*ul doesn't exist in this
i think that by ttc, posally is definitely going strong lol. obviously poseidon isn't always around, especially with the war brewing, but he does pop in for a day or two at a time when percy isn't around.
i do think he still comes for percy's birthday in botl, but when he leaves, that's the last time he's around for a while, honestly until after tlo. he sends things to sally when he gets the time to, but the war in atlantis is breaking out and he can't get away to visit.
after tlo and the war, poseidon and sally start seeing each other somewhat more regularly, but they're both hesitant bc they're not sure how percy would react
percy starts suspecting, but if you're going with canon-compliant post-tlo events, he gets kidnapped before he really figures anything out
poseidon breaks the whole no-contact rule in hoo and sees sally, and tells her that percy is okay, etc., but he can't tell her where he's at or anything bc he's not allowed to interfere.
after hoo though, percy does eventually find out that they're together. i don't think he's angry or anything, he's mainly just like "she [estelle] better not go through any of the shit i did." and is okay with it, as long as sally is okay with it.
honestly i have some more thoughts, but they're not coherent enough for me to put here lol
mmm i just saw something about how when percy first met poseidon in tlt, he said that he wished Percy had never been born because he was born into a hero's fate, and how poseidon treated percy badly by saying that he was a mistake, etc. ...
but my problem with that is that they did exactly what i did—they cut the excerpt off here instead of finishing the scene?? so we don't get the entire picture, and are left with no other context to go off of.
yeah, poseidon does sound pretty shitty when you only look at the yellow part, but as percy is walking away, he realizes how he must have come across and amends it. he wasn't trying to tell percy that (1) he would rather him have never been born in general, he's saying that (2) given the circumstances it may have been better because he doesn't want to see his son live out a hero's tragedy. idk if that makes sense, but those are two very different things. he literally says "do not misunderstand me," and tries to reassure percy that he didn't mean the 1st thing, but rather the 2nd.
idk. i know poseidon isn't necessarily a great dad by mortal standards, but don't pick and choose excerpts to make him seem worse than he actually is, ya know? he's a great dad by godly standards tbh.
