Hi everyone! I hope y’all are as excited about Ethersea as we are! Just completed some housekeeping and we’re happy to announce that our catalogue of read-only transcripts has now been updated to include the rest of Amnesty, almost all of Graduation (the last few episodes will be up soon!), and most of Ethersea so far!
Now that the McElroys have announced that TAZ will be going weekly (!!!) we can use all the help we can get with transcribing! Head over to the ~Master Tracking Document~ for links to all the editable documents and to see which episodes need work. Dive right in! Don’t wait for permission! You can consult our Resources and Formatting Guide for transcription software and guidelines for how to format and style our transcripts.
You’re also invited to The Transcription Zone, our Discord server, for real-time coordination of Team TAZscript efforts, or just to chat with friends. Type @mods there if you need to get in touch with us!
As always, thank you for all your contributions great and small, and for being the best community!
made the world's best decision and decided to see if there were transcripts for taz (spoiler alert there are!! have a fucking mobile link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zVGa1zgr7BjMC_0L06_XpmuIn2jgDKHvPZkohHy0YrA/mobilebasic ) and I totally understand what's happening now omg it's helped so much
So I thought I’d try slowing down the audio on TAZ during transcription and?!? They all sound super drunk when slowed down? It’s very, very funny. It’s an A+ decision on my part, let me tell ya. Slow-drunk-Clint is especially funny, as he sounds so very, very whiny.
Okay. So @theadventurezone TAZ Episode 2 is fully transcribed. The ever amazing @lieutenanthurley @peatpunk has finished aiding me in McElroy identification and in deciphering unintelligible bits. So that means I can link it now!
Here you go. Editing is off, but comments are on, if anyone has suggestions/requests/corrections. @kokoromorii If you have an idea for linking these all in one place please let me know.
Some notes on formatting, etc. choices under the cut, for anyone interested.
Until someone says otherwise, I’m gonna stick with the same style as I move on to Episode 4.
Font is Verdana, which @sleepysatyr has indicated might work best for people with dyslexia. Sized 11 so it isn’t too god-awful long, but I can size it up if that’s better.
Right now it’s formatted in just a basic transcription style, according to all the webpages I read on this sorta thing: double-spacing, pauses mentioned, etc. I’m not attached to any of it, so if there’s a better way just suggest it.
I’ve kept in things like “uh” and “uhhm” throughout because I wasn’t sure if people want that. I think that in the future I’ll leave in the ones that seem intentional, and leave out the ones that seem like standard filler people include in casual speech without thinking about it at all. I’m up for suggestions/opinions on this though.
[laughing] or [chuckling] indicate that the speaker is laughing while talking, [laughter] means dialogue is being interrupted because of wordless laughter.
Justin did a lot of talking regular-voice talking as Taako in this ep, so I differentiated. Neither Travis nor Clint have character voices this early on, so I just have them labeled Magnus and Merle whenever it’s obvious they’re in character.
As I mentioned in another post, I linked certain terms to (mosty) Wiki articles so that people won’t miss references; this is mostly linking D&D spells and terms in case people are curious as to how they actually work, and linking American foods/actors/shows, etc. in case younger listeners or non-American listeners have no idea who or what the McElroys are talking about. If any of y’all like the idea but don’t wanna go back through and check for that stuff, I’m more than willing to do that on y’all’s for you; otherwise, I’ll just keep it up on mine.
Well, I’m finally done transcribing TAZ ep 2. That took SO LONG. But was worth it? @peatpunk @lieutenanthurley if you would please do a McElroy Bro ID session sometime (no hurry, of course!), I would appreciate it very much--or if someone else is willing to help, please just message me and I’ll give you the link and what to search for. Once that’s done I can open up the file for viewing by everyone and pass it along to, ah. Whomever started this, I’m too tired to remember at the moment.
On a related note: Is Justin the one who usually sounds a little nasally, like he’s finally getting over a cold even when he isn’t? Because if so, I may finally b e making some progress at telling him and Travis apart?
So as I’ve been doing my transcript I’ve taken to linking irl people/things and D&D stuff to Wiki articles. Obviously nobody else needs to do that in theirs, but I figured it might be useful to younger/non-American/non-tabletop people to have a quick source for joke references, spells, etc.
