Riddler Year One #3 covers A-C
For The Batman I have a thought...*SPOILERS*
Did anyone else see the election date was Nov. 5th?
And then you have the Riddler setting off bombs across the city.
I feel like this was a nod to Vendetta
And of course...
a while back I saw a post about how the last part of The Batman seemed like it came out of left field and I think the next reblog was arguing otherwise but ever since I saw that post I've been thinking about it because when I was in the theatre, that's exactly how I felt, like the end came out of nowhere and just seemed like an excuse to do No Man's Land, and I think it's because the way that part of the movie is structured is really weird
like they wanted to have the scene where Riddler tells Batman he sees them as kindred spirits. but he has to be caught towards the end of the movie so they can't have that reveal any earlier. aside from the fact that multiple people throughout the movie told Bruce he was an unhelpful, ungrateful, leeching asshole, he would only listen if the villain told him that. but this is where the movie runs into a problem: the villain is caught and things should be starting to wrap up, but they can't, because Batman is still not a hero. he's still Vengeance. nobody sees him as a symbol of hope and the movie has to solve that in like the next twenty minutes. and the way they do it is just... so unconvincing.
Batman leads a group of people out of a chest-high flood, who only follow him because a child trusts him, who only trusts him because he was nice to him earlier in the movie, whom he was only nice to because the child reminded him of himself. this child is, I think, the ONLY person Batman is nice to the ENTIRE MOVIE. he's a jackass to literally EVERYONE ELSE. even so, this INSTANTLY turns around the general public's opinion. suddenly EVERYONE thinks Batman is a nice and helpful guy. because he had a flare on him and stuck around to help clean up, basically. and THEN the movie wants me to believe the news focused on reporting on the hope-spreading stranger dressed as a bat as opposed to the two simultaneous terrorist attacks and the capture of a serial killer. and the movie wants me to believe that because it also wants me to believe that Batman being nice to one roomful of people for a few hours is enough to make up for the two years he's spent terrorising the entire city and is so impactful that everyone goes from fearing Batman to wanting him to hold their hand when they're scared. but I'm not convinced because it really feels like while they were writing it, they forgot Batman was even supposed to be having a character arc and crammed it into the end instead of, IDK, waiting until the sequel to have him earn the trust of the city and become their hero.
it bugged me in the theatre and it's bugged me ever since. it's an incredibly clumsy ending and I don't even know how you would fix it as-is without making it longer, which I wouldn't do because it's already too long
I saw a thread where the commenters said The Batman was better than The Dark Knight and it really made me feel like we had watched two versions of The Batman
As much as I love Riddler, I don’t think I’m EVER going to watch the new Batman movie. I hate the casting (except Catwoman), I hate the plot, I hate the fans of the movie woobifying Edward and calling him trans and queer and autistic for no reason (I’m literally two of those things and seeing them dote on and woobify “trans queer autistic Eddie” is extremely patronizing and makes me feel like I can’t be taken seriously as a fucking person). And I hate RiddleBat. I use to be neutral on the ship, only hating it in certain versions, like Arkham. But the sheer volume and quantity of me seeing it is making me actively hate it. And again, I really don’t like the whole “Eddie Nashton is just skrunkly little fella. He’s just a poor trans autistic babee who wants to have some gay loves from emo Batman. Poor guy just a sweet guy who wants to get Batman’s dick. Uwu.” It’s... It awakens an unbridled R A G E within me. And I guarantee you at least 90% of the people saying this aren’t even autistic. And I guarantee at least 60% aren’t queer either, and just like the idea of Pattinson and Dano making out. I will never understand why every time Tumblr loves a character, they automatically have to be a baby, gay, trans, a baby, woobified, autistic, and a baby. It’d be one thing if it was one or two of those traits. But it’s like fans have their own bingo sheets to fill, and it enrages me. Because of course, everyone knows a character isn’t enjoyable unless they’re only defining traits are gay, a baby, and autistic, and not ANY of the traits they actually exhibit in said film. I may not have seen the movie in its entirety, but I’ve seen enough bits and pieces of it to know how inaccurate the fans’ takes are.
There are several things here I’m not qualified to comment on but the woobification of a serial killer/domestic terrorist is certainly a strange takeaway a lot of people had with that movie
As for the movie itself, the more I think about it the more I didn’t like it
Tbh I really like both Batman Arkham Knight Riddler, as well as Paul Dano's Riddler. Even if Batman Arkham Knight Riddler looks like he could use a shower, and it took a few rewatches to actually enjoy Paul Dano's Riddler.
Also Cory Michael Smith probably played the best, because over the series, we see his downward spiral into insanity.
<?>
The part I don’t like about Dano’s Riddler is that they mashed it into Hush’s backstory/motivations. Riddler doesn’t need a tragic backstory imo
I can’t say anything about CMS because I didn’t finish the show
Also #akriddlerisnotactuallydirty
And also what was up with Gordon. Gordon is supposed to be suspicious of Batman but the one in The Batman just simps for him, even when he’s terrorising civilians. He simps so hard for this vigilante who has so far proven he’s a menace to everyone around him that he tells him to punch him in the face and happily follows him around
I honestly don’t believe Batman doesn’t speak Spanish and I can’t be convinced that he doesn’t
