Remembering ... I loved this show. We played with Spore and Come (Thalia Zedek’s band- legendary )
It was a hot, small crowded club on a 1990s summer night ... I am so glad I experienced the 1990s music scene. We just did it. We just started bands and booked shows, created record labels and recorded and put out each other’s singles. We lived in old houses with roommates so the rent was cheap. We drank too much and wrote in journals. We wore vintage, thrift store clothing, shoes you could run in and carried mace. My favorite bands toured constantly then. There was a whole national network of small, cool clubs. The internet was just becoming accessible but we didn’t use it. No one owned a computer. Cell phones were years off. We did have Pen pals, letters to fanzines, college radio stations, land line calls to phone numbers written on your hand or scraps of paper and cocktail napkins.
We talked and hung out with the bands after the shows. Real people connecting. I saw so many ...L7, Babes in Toyland, Hole, Lunachicks, 7 Year Bitch, Zuzu’s Petals, Bratmobile, Sleater Kinney, Bikini Kill , The Melvins, Tad, The Jesus Lizard, Cows, Laughing Hyenas the list goes on ... I even saw Smashing Pumpkins first Boston show ever here at TTs. It was packed walk to wall. When Nirvana played at Green Street Station on July 15, 1989 I didn’t go but some of my friends did. It was kind of just another cool show .. little did we know . And yes I knew Mary Lou Lord pretty well ...
I gues this is why I do this blog. The 1990s were as cool as they seemed. Summer makes me nostalgic.
