“ hey, joe ... hey! joe ... joe! how’s it going ... ”
a drop of water splashed back into the sink just as aj reached out to shut off the faucet. it tickled the end of his nose when it slid, but he was too distracted to register the tingling feeling. it wiggled by reflex before his eyes slid up into the mirror to watch himself wipe away the excess wash away with a scratchy towel. “ joe, it’s been real, but i don’t know if the record business and me are cut out for each other. ” fingers glide through his dark tresses, pushing them back from his forehead. a BANG comes at the door breaking him out of his rehearsal trance. “ yeah! i’m done. ” aj doesn’t see who’s cutting his time short. he’s determined. he moves toward the manager’s office and pushes through the door.
“ joe! i have to quit the empire. ” only joe wasn’t alone like he’d imagined when he was in the bathroom practicing this announcement. “ uh, i can come — i mean i ... ” a girl was in his office and she was ... was she even human? he blinked and looked back at joe to make sure he could see her too. joe piped up about not having time for his shit right now. something about being in the middle of an interview with the new hire. good news, he wasn’t crazy. bad news, he now looked like a supreme idiot. he started nodding like he fully understood. he didn’t understand anything. what had he come in here for again?
