(JJBA Mer AU) Redraw of the first drawing of Merlone and Risotto. Not completely happy with it but it’s better than the original (included below cut).

Surprisingly, Risotto cooperated more with me than Melone. Usually it’s the opposite

(JJBA Mer AU) Little world building. Meal Times is basically supper. Mers think it’s weird that humans eat all the time and mers can manage to only need to eat a big meal once a day (maybe a snacky in between). The storage is where Prosciutto discovered Narancia. And promptly pretended that he wasn’t gonna take him in while simultaneously leaving food for the poor boy.

Also was gonna draw a second page explaining how they got said food but it’s just nets. They set up the nets and check up on them periodically for food (fish that made it in).

(Mer AU) Merfolk enjoy doing each other’s hair and perching on rocks, that part of the stereotype is true. Well with Risotto’s pod, you’re more likely to get dragged over and your hair done up nicely by Prosciutto. He’s fussy and needs control. Melone doesn’t mind and actually likes it.

Melone does his research once he gets bored of annoying Prosciutto. At this point he becomes super focused on it and Illuso took the opportunity to step in and do his hair.

Sorry about any confusion around my second question I will try to word it better. I was wondering if a regular human could get physically transformed into a merfolk in some way.

I have a few more questions for you, your art is just so incredible. How well are the merfolk known by humanity as a whole, or do they live in secrecy. Also, do you have any plans on giving any completely human characters a merfolk tail, I could imagine quite a few interesting antics that could follow.

Enforced secrecy! The only thing that remains of human's knowledge on merfolk is folk tales. Well that's how the King wants it to be. Any human that finds out about merfolk (and the King is made aware of it), the King's Assassins (Risotto's pod) is tasked with getting rid of. If it's a bad enough breach of secrecy (by a mer purposefully revealing themselves like in a romantic relationship with a human, or by a mer giving themselves away to a large amount of humans by accident), then even the mer will be killed off.

Most merfolk will agree with the secrecy thing because they don't exactly see humans in a positive light in the first place. And believe humans that since humans can't even treat each other well over differences, merfolk will be treated with even less respect by them (capturing and locking up). Along with the whole pollution thing caused by humans. They only want to breach secrecy with making deals with humans because that's entertaining to them.

Not entirely sure what you mean by this sorry. Like an artificial tail? That you slip on (and cost a lot?)?

Thank you for answering my other question, I hope you can answer a few more. How long do your merfolk live on average compared to humans. Also, how much does Trish's life change overall when she learns about her mer side, like does she remain on land or in the water more?

Their lifespan is about equivalent to a humans, with most growing stages being around the same age. Unfortunately, due to overfishing and pollution, in recent years the average lifespan for mers has drastically decreased (fighting over territory that has more fish, malnutrition, etc)

In the storyline, Trish discovers it at the beach which causes chaos both on land and in the water. The discovery that the King broke his own rule and had a relationship with a human (that resulted in a child that blew secrecy) kind of stirred the waters. She fell under the protection of Risotto's pod and Bucci's Gang, I suppose learning about mers from Risotto's pod.

I think if it had been a more private discovery (or I guess after Diavolo is dealt with), I think she'd want to have both on equal terms, because her life has existed on land (friends, memories, etc) but there's also this whole new side and nature calling to her. I mean she's a mermaid, I think she'd be the type of girl to eventually come to terms and find that exciting. Her friends all wishing to be that growing up and she actually is one.

But she'd have to be in the water as that part isn't repressed anymore. She can stay on land, but only for maybe two weeks at most before needing to return to where mers need to be.

Hello, your merfolk art is quite amazing and I have a question.

Since Trish has a human mother and merman father, how different if any is she from full blooded merfolk.

There's no difference! Any mer born from human/mer relationship are fully mer! (It seems that the mer gene is also dominant)

There seems to be a unique phenomenon though of them being able to stay on land for years without knowing they're a mer though. Unfortunately there's not enough cases of baby mers (with both parents being mer) being stolen and raised on land to confirm if this is a repressed thing or a thing that only mers born from human/mer relationships can do. (Melone has looked into this.)

(JJBA Mer AU/JoJo OC) Farfalle’s mer AU reference because it was sitting in my WIP pile for a while-

I can add another OC to the AU. As a treat. Farfalle is part of Risotto’s pod (King’s Assassins). But sort of by accident. Risotto sank a ship Farfalle was on, Farfalle discovering they were a mer because of that and Risotto being dumped with New Merperson. And they have a pretty potent ability. He can’t shake them off no matter how annoyed Prosciutto gets.

They’re playful, Narancia enjoys having them as a playmate. Risotto nor Prosciutto allow the two to be together alone because suddenly they’ll get messages from Farfalle saying they somehow wound up in the Indian Ocean??? Or was it near Australia. They’re not quite sure how they got there, they were both following a boat and then a plane and then a whale and then there was the neat shiny thing in the distance and-

They eventually befriend a human (Panini) before Narancia was discovered by Fugo. They like shiny things but Illuso keeps stealing them. They also like having an octo-mer tail as it’s helpful to grab things, but not as fast.
