"quit causing problems everywhere you go." onikiri / The Pitt Sentence Starters
〘楓〙
It was stupid of her to think an oni would fight cleanly.
The ground is littered with carnage that suited a war zone than outside of a temple--pieces of the chimi and mōryō now scattered around as their blood soaked the supposed safe and purified ground. In the city, it was just Yurei she had dealt with but out here in the secluded forest...the physical remains and scent of death now hung heavy in the night air.
But why was there so many of them? They didn't hunt in packs or small groups. It's a mimicry of animals but with the taste for human blood and flesh. Their ability to sound off calls and ask for help, luring the good natured folks of this town away to the opening hunger that invests the mountains.
His voice cuts through her thoughts as he steps closer. Onikiri stands before her covered in blood and gore, unbothered by it. Maybe even enjoyed it as his red gaze pierces through her. He looks her over, voice gruff like usual carrying just a statement of his displeasure of what she had decided just hours before.
He had followed along with her plan of being bait. He had followed her orders like he said he would. And he had ripped through the lesser yokai like an oni would in those terrifying tales passed down from elders to onmyoji.
Oni crave violence. Oni crave war. Oni crave humans.
Warnings turned to lesson for every blossoming onmyoji that are drilled in as soon as they could speak. Yet he stands before her, brows furrowed under his white hair while he looks her over to make sure she hadn't gotten caught in the crossfire or allowed herself to get hurt during the battle.
Her paper cranes fly lower, the only show of discomfort that slips pass as the cold clarity begins to push down the initial surprise along with that one second of flickering fear that registers on how ichor suited him when he looked like this. Not the human mask he wore for her comfort but the one with horns that reach towards the heavens.
"...It worked in the end, didn't it?" Kaede replies, somehow her voice easygoing like usual as paper flies from her sleeves and fold into more cranes. They slowly descend, surrounding the mess of dead yokai and blood before lighting a fire to burn away the impurities of the slaughter.
She reaches out to tug him away from it, back towards the temple's building. Back towards something human.
"I'll draw a bath for you."

"it must be my lucky day." Inui / The Pitt Sentences

For just a split second, she considers applying just a tad more force and dig the knife deeper into him. But the sharpened point at his chest where it would slip between the ribcage bones had been there out of habit than necessity this time around. After years, he never seems to learn that sneaking up on her was grounds for an unwarranted assassination--or maybe he just enjoyed the thrill like some adrenaline junkie.
"Lucky is the worst term you could use to describe this situation." She says back dryly, sarcasm apparent as she pulls away and sheathed the knife back into its holster. Normally she'd have more polite words with a fellow heir but that's out of the question if it's him she's dealing with.
So she turns to open the door of the worn down shrine, the wood groaning at the movement as the left side hangs from the metal hinges like a broken arm.
A grimace along with her waving dust away from her face. The inside was well kept single room filled with trinkets of worship and scattered suzu bells that look rusted from the humid mountain air. More importantly, there was no one here like she expected. Her boots hit a bell as she enters, frown as she bends to pick one up and turn it over in her gloved hands.
She hears him step in after her, no doubt with the usual smirk on his face.
"They're gone." She says more to herself than him while straightening and tucking the bell away into her pocket. The east unguarded which explained the worsening miasma that was slowly inching towards her lands. "Are you here to help or get in the way?"

The simple task of putting one foot in front of the other suddenly seems monumental as he turns towards her with that polite, inviting smile. This is a shrine dedicated to him, so it's natural for humans to come into right?
Despite that logic, her feet remain firmly rooted to the ground. This was way above her paygrade--something he didn't understand given what he was. All he saw was a sharp onmyoji, one tracking down the remnants herself. Or perhaps a stubborn mortal woman who probably has bitten off more than she can chew.
Either way, being invited like this made her lose focus for a few seconds and caused her to freeze. He seemed puzzled, sharp gold eyes missing nothing she did and she can only swallow how ludicrous this situation felt while forcing herself to move stiffly into the threshold.
"...Sorry, I suddenly felt out of place." The onmyoji states after a second as the door shuts behind her. She just prays he doesn't push it further as she didn't want to explain the awkwardness she feels at a god welcoming her into his domain.
@tcmokiri sent: "You have no idea, do you?" A smug smirk appears as the uchigatana holds out the report, looking at his master with amusement in his eyes. Just as she reaches it he pulls it away teasingly, his wrist going upward as he tuts at her. "I know. Let me hear it." - CHOUGI
〘楓〙
Hm...? This was new.
The saniwa's brows furrow lightly as the uchigatana playfully pulls away his preliminary report. The smugness that he usually had seems to have intensified since he's been back, but his exasperation now wielded in a friendly and mischievous way. Not that she's complaining--at the end of the day, he seemed more at peace than frustrated.
"Expecting me to ask nicely, Chougi?" Kaede replies, placing her hand back onto her desk and looking at the monitors in front of her. There isn't a big influx of activity assigned to her so the papers he had wasn't so important.
But fine, she'll play along.
"May I please have your won-der-fully written scouting report, Yamanbagiri Chougi?" Unfortunately, she can't keep the dryness out of her tone but she places both her hands out and flexes her fingers as if to see 'place it here!' eagerly.
@tcmokiri:"You know exactly what you’re doing." Camu's sarcastic grumbles are clear, arms crossed with a scowl clear on his face. He leans against his great sword, another curse muttered under his breath as the Commandant continues to use the drone to "scout" instead of sending him in.

"You hate hospital food, remember?" Her reply matches his sarcasm, eyes never leaving the tablet in her hands. The density of the punishing virus was huge here, growing even more by the second if she couldn't find the source. An ascendant maybe? Or some sort of experiment they're trying out, but this area was crucial to plan ahead.
Camu may have a high tolerance, but she won't let him linger for a second longer inside that storm of chaos. Low visibility, underground sewers, and the fact she can't head down with him is already annoying enough. Finally, the drone seems to locate the source, overlaying it with the map on her screen before planning out a route. At the center, Camu's target glows brightly as she shoes him the path he needs to take.
"Here. Memorize it in case communications fail."

She tilts her head in reply, unsure if that was a compliment or not. By all means, she’s never considered herself selfless, or someone who had a pure heart. She was level-headed and just tried to make the correct decisions when the time comes--
Though that was before she decided to save an oni, something that was deemed an enemy and danger to her clan.
It was the first impulsive thing she’s done in her life, that’s for sure.
“I don’t think it’s bigger than anyone else’s. It’s natural to want to help people...” She trails off, brows furrowing for a few seconds as she stares at the other’s face. It looked too human and unlike the vicious pictures that had been her reference for so long.
“You’re alive too, and have the right to live. That’s what I believe, anyway.”

She raises a brow, hazel gaze shifting from Onikiri to the few revenants in question. Their voices were suddenly hushed, and she could see their lingering gaze going towards her and the other--it didn’t seem like fear was the correct emotion they had on their faces. Unease, maybe, but she’s sure it wasn’t her that was stirring up such emotions.
“...I’m pretty sure they’re looking at you. Your infamous for...well, you know.” Kaede mutters back with a tilt of her head. There wasn’t really a polite way of saying ‘rampaging’ and ‘causing havoc.’ “They’ve probably seen you fight when you’re all...feral.”
That seemed to be an accurate way to put it.
