Building a Quick TowerDefense Game

I am trying to build this little tower defense game as quickly as I can. I am also finishing up COLDNIGHTS to release on steam once I have enough wishlists to make it worth. Still new to the marketing game.

For this project I am just tying to get placeholder art in. I started working on this on the 6th with a small simple prototype. Then designing some of the types of towers and uniqueness I wanted to play around with and see if they work to make a fun game.

No sound as yet, I'll be working on adding some test sound effects with a tool called sfxr that I've been using for years. In the next update there will be sound.

GAME DESIGN

So the uniqueness here is the requirements of building mineral extractors to further develop solar panels and then be able to place towers. This also comes with a lot of options to build upon, like battery storage and laying powerlines to connect things. I think it removes a bunch of the downsides of current Tower Defense pitfalls and shortcomings and offers more strategic play. I'll let you be the judge once I have enough for a gameplay prototype to get up on itch.

I have been a long time fan of strategy, building, crafting games as well as simulations and deep simulations. One of the ideas here is also to generate random maps which I hope wlil offer much needed replayability something I try to design for in all my games only you and time will tell if I will be successful and to what degree.

So I think there is also some other variations I want to put on the map to enhance the replayability. A couple ideas I've been toying with are different resources in different locations, having areas where enemies will slow down based on the terrain, or miners and solar panels will have buffs. These will help make new plays strategically meaningful and unique and hopefully exciting.

The hardest part is balancing the noise field and generating strategically interesting maps on every play. So these elements kind of play into each other which makes it difficult to plan for unless I'm sure of all the map idiosyncrasies I want try to make. I don't want anything that is going to add an extreme amount of coding or extra time.

As most of the project will involve polish and art visuals, which I am excited for I need more experience in those capturing graphics to bring in players and also it is one of the aspects of a TD game that is ultimately rewarding, watching all the towers destroy the enemy units.

Oh just got another idea I could also make strategic split tiles on the map. The idea with map stuff is that I want to give you choices as to what you wish to build and then you may have the challenge to actually build it without loosing all the lives. I hope this will add excitement to each session.

Also I think I need an overworld map? Please let me know I have not actually played many Tower Defense games in the past several years. So I need some help on that, please comment and follow along I may need help later especially with play testing.
