The Ones Who Live - I'm Back + Intro!

Morning Everyone!

I'm sorry I've been gone so long. I posted a short intro video for you so we can get back into things as the first episode of TOWL drops tonight.

I'm so excited to get back into our beloved TWD world, even if we won't see much of Daryl here. I still have high hopes for Beth's return.

TD REBOOT EP: 5-6 SPOILERS

first may I just say I LOVE Bowie's elimination! He left in pride, an intact character AND kept his relationship (something that not all tdi contestants can say they had) BUT IT THEORY TIME!

So what if next episode Raj takes what Bowie said to heart and is REALLY trying to win after this. We ready know that MK and Juila won't stop cheating if they can (mostly Juila, MK had enough of a beating to stop) And they're still in the game. Know TD they would want them to get their comeuppance and currently everyone but Raj and Wayne think Bowie started the idea.

Also remember when the hockey bros were booted but we still saw/heard of things of Raj so we can get more Rajbow. That gives me a feeling that Raj wouldn't simply give up or move on from something that happened last episode; so he's definitely going to take Bowie's boot personally. Mostly like motivation.

So I can see the next episode Raj is sulking around because of Bowie's elimination, Wayne is trying to get his buddy hopes back up while Juila and MK take this as prime time to spit those two. The hockey bros see what they're trying to do and Raj being the strategist thinks of a counterattack. Especially Raj won't forget what they did and I think this is when we'll see more of Raj's mean side like we saw in the bros introduction first season.

I like to believe that Mike was in the foster care system (and was a Quintuplet) but wasn't able to stay with his siblings. And even though their grandfather (from their father's side) is alive, their mother refused custody to their grandfather. (Both didn't get along well due to her toxic behavior)

The quintuplets are still in touch which is why Mike knows his sister is training to be a professional gymnast, and one of his brothers turned to a life of crime. Since they were all so young, Mike believes his siblings gained accents.

By the end of season 2 and into season 3 the shift really began from the comics.  Gimple decided that Glen, Rick, Daryl, and Ezekiel  were going to be his “male leads” and Maggie, Carol, Michonne, and Beth were his females. 

I read a post about there being four queens on TWD.  I would love to give credit, but I can’t remember where I read it. I can’t remember who they said belonged to each suit, but my observations are as follows:

Maggie and Glen are the King and Queen of Spades. Maggie  is the farmer and Glen was the “supplier” as the run expert. Maggie reigns  over the Hilltop farming community. Glen rules with her in spirit.  Remember his big portrait over the fireplace at Hilltop?  Maggie’s spin-off story still revolves around his death. 

Rick and Michonne are the King and Queen of Clubs. The katana and machete are both types of clubs they wield as warriors.  They reign over Alexandria, the “country club” like community.

Carol and Ezikeil are the King and Queen of Hearts.  They reign over “utopian” or fairy tale-like “kingdoms”. It is no mistake that they take over the Commonwealth to rule together by the end of the flagship show. Carol has learned to temper her heart because of how deeply she loves and the lengths she will go to for those she loves.  Ezekiel is her balance.  

By the end of season 3, the stage was set.  By the time the prison fell in season four, the foreshadowing began. 

Daryl and Beth are the King and Queen of Diamonds.  Like diamonds are found beneath the earth, Daryl and Beth reign in underworld and outer world type spaces. Daryl is never a permanent resident in any of the other kingdoms because he doesn't really belong there. Beth is the “shine bright like a diamond” type of diamond and Daryl is the “diamond in the rough”. Their story was suspended in a funeral home(gateway to the underworld).  I have discussed the underworld/Grady connection here. Beth was “lost” in Grady which is a type of “underworld”. When they are finally reunited, I believe it will be in another “underworld” type space. 

By the end of season 3, the stage was set.  By the time the prison fell in season four, the foreshadowing began. 

Look at the groups who end up to together: 

As frustrated as I am with how the spin-off is dragging Daryl’s story and his eventual reunion with Beth, ALL of the writing and foreshadowing to this point still indicates that this is the story they are telling.

Rick and Michonne-They bond over a “son” foreshadowing they would be a couple and have a son together.  

Carol ends up with Tyreese who is a stand-in for Ezkiel who was not present in the prison storyline but soon would be on the show. The children they “lost” represent the loss of Henry which is an obstacle the couple must overcome. 

Maggie and Glen- They are separated and desperately try to find each other.  This foreshadows them being separated by Glen’s death.

Daryl and Beth- This couple is the most volatile of the pairings but also the most transformative for both of them. Their story was suspended in time due to Beth’s capture and “death”.  It foreshadows that when Beth is “resurrected” from the underworld, they will finish their story where it was left off and get their happy ending by staying together.

As frustrated as I am with how the spin-off is dragging Daryl’s story and his eventual reunion with Beth, ALL of the writing and foreshadowing to this point still indicates that this is the story they are telling.

After 12 years, ten without Beth, they just need to get on with it! Teasing is great, but too much teasing leads to frustration and disinterest.

What do you think of Beth's line to Daryl in s4 about "ACTING like you don't feel anything" after they lost their family to him actually not feeling anything after her death to the point he had to self harm just to feel something?

What was the writers intentions exactly? Did him not feeling anything after her death mean her death hurt him more than him thinking he lost his entire family in s4? Sorry, I'm just a little confused about this part.

I remember reading an article with Norman from s5 and he talked about sitting down on an apple crate crying for over an hour because he didn't want to cry while he was holding Beth (I'm guessing the scene where Maggie finds out). I didn't understand it then because I thought why would he not still be upset right then but I guess now it's because his character was supposed to already be numb from so much pain..??

Daryl immediately lost his shit in front of everyone when Beth died and I don't think everyone understands just how much so.

Daryl starts bawling before he even lowers his gun. Most people miss it because it's very subtle, but after he shoots Dawn, Daryl seems to apparently fall to the floor next to Beth - even before Rick makes the decision to just let the other cops be. Because that's where he is when they switch back to Rick right at the 2:36-2:37 mark of the above video. It actually appears Daryl may have actually been holding and rocking her as he cried. That's what Noah and Rick are staring at for an entire 10 seconds from 2:40 - 2:50 while they try to process what had just happened.

***NOTE*** It just dawned on me Daryl might have actually stopped the bleeding while he was on that floor (intentionally or even accidently in grief - it is a normal reaction for people to "try and put their loved ones back together" after these types of traumas) since she was no longer bleeding when he carried her out. This could explain how she didn't completely bleed out if she were still alive.***

The article you are talking about refers to Norman describing at the San Diego Comic Con how the crew let him sit down in the hallway and just cry for an hour and a half because he wanted it to appear that Daryl had been crying (presumably on the floor in the hospital) a while before carrying her out. He did this because he wanted it to appear that he was exhausted from crying so much.

Nevertheless, in the above video Daryl still cries again when Maggie looses it toward the very end of the episode around the 4:37 mark.

I also think there's misunderstanding over why Daryl burned himself while on the road to Virginia as well. While people who self-harm can do so just to feel, they more commonly do it in attempt to distract themselves from intense physiological pain they are already feeling. I believe the writers had Daryl do this as a way to show just how much emotional distress he was in at the time - especially since he isn't normally shown as someone who regularly self-harms.

On the road to Virginia, I feel Daryl was just trying to bottle up the pain like he usually does - which is also what Beth was referring to when she said he was "ACTING" like he didn't feel a thing about their family. Carol (and honestly the others) knew what he was doing and was telling him that he couldn't function doing that so he needed to let it out. That’s what Beth was saying too in Still when she called it BS.

TWD: Daryl Dixon: L'ame Perdu - Analysis

Okay everyone,

I did this as a video. But it took a REALLY long time to make and ended up being long. So, I'd appreciate some feedback. I may not always be able to do the video component. Are you guys good if it's just the audio, podcast style?

Also, would you prefer I broke it up into 10 or 15 minute chunks for easier listening? Or do you like the longer episode? Let me know!
