Week 16: Martin Maca Lecture
On April 22 I attended the Martin Maca Lecture. At the beginning of the lecture there was a presentation awarding the seniors for there final exam projects. Then after that Lyle Pudwill started to present. Lyle is a former student at SDSU and works at Confluence which is a landscape architecture firm. He started to talk about how much as a company they have grown. They currently have 5 locations and are in the top 5% in size of there company. Then he began to talk about many projects that confluence has worked on from all of there locations. There was many interesting and many well designed projects that he showed.
Overall I thought the lecture was very interesting and inspiring. To see how they began as a small company and emerged as one of the largest is pretty cool. I was also very impressed by the projects that were shown and the consistency of each locations projects.
When first told that we were going to have to do blogs every week this semester I thought it was going to be dreadful. Turns out it was at times but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Even though writing blogs wasn’t the most fun thing to do with my time I did learn a lot from writing them. If I never did the blogs I would have never seen diversity with other projects and not gained valuable knowledge about landscape architecture that I have now.
