I'm trying to broaden my tea-buds (hehe..) towards tea as I've been pretty stuck on the couple types i know i like, the most adventurous I've been is trying bubble teas and recently a canned milk tea (which was meh, I've found I'm not a fan of mixing tea or booze with dairy)
This is my first time trying just a black tea on its own. For all these teas I'll try them in multiple ways, at least 3-4 maybe more. We have a specialty tea/chocolate store here where they got a tower of the stuff that you can pick and choose from, i think I have 25-30 flavours. A couple or so might be duplicates tho oops 😅
Most of these are going to be Basilur brand.
100% ceylon black tea
By itself: God DAAMMN that's bitter as hell, tbf I left it to steep for 5 minutes... i got distracted. I'm not saying this to mock but the initial smell to my undeveloped senses was, old wet lump of fall leaves, which makes sense i think. Had my mouth feel as if i put cotton balls in it. 2/10
With (brown) sugar: i need Lots of sugar but then i see why people like it. I could sip away a mugful but I'd know i was missing something, i think it'd be better if i steeped it less and i think it could get to an 8 but for now 7/10
Sugar + milk: Not a fan! Not a fan! Might have put too much milk. Texture bad, too sweet with the amount of sugar i already put in, the tea+dairy combo just doesn't sit right with me (i already don't like booze+dairy so I'm not surprised). Also leaves the yucky dairy after taste, could get a higher number if i tried again with less steep time, sugar and milk. 3/10
Sugar + lime: YESSSSSSS this is my shit! I'm not surprised, my usual tea to have is a black tea with peach, honey+sugar and lots of lime juice, dangerous, could drink many liters of this if i had no self control. 10 OUTTA 10 BABYYYYYY
I smushed a bit of fresh nectarine in the lime one, yeah Of Course it's good duh
I started carefully rotating them on low heat, hoping to muddle them just enough but I'm impatient as hell and so to get the flavors mixed in right away I gave it a quick stint at high heat with about a teaspoon of actually tea for a liquid substrate (in this case the blend I made today of da hong pao, lichee black tea, and honeysuckle). NOW it's back on low heat and I've set a 30 minute timer to check and move the tea around. So while I'm waiting, does anyone want me to draw or write something or???
Pls do yes I am so curious. It’s a tea journey, though, so no rush ☀️ The tea I have had has had really subtle tastes? I know you can always add things like sugar, honey, milk, and lemon and stuff. Omg I have my own tag 🙈💕💕
oooh okay! i will, and okay, so not all of them have strong flavors? do some just taste mostly like water with hints of other flavors? i’m very curious i’m going to the store tomorrow so i’ll have to get some
Today's tea was earl grey with lavender. I like lavender so i was looking forward to this, no picture of it today I forgor 😊
Ceylon black tea, earl grey lavender
By itself: slightly bitter but drinkable unlike when i forgot the last one that ended up being steeped for 6-8 mins, made sure to steep this not much longer than 3 mins. Can taste the lavender tho it's not overpowering. Couldn't just casually sip on it 3/10
With sugar: 3 spoonfuls of it, nice! I'd want more sugar but yesterday the milk version was too sweet so I'll add some more later. I'd enjoy sipping away at this but wouldn't be entirely satisfied. 5.5/10
With milk: tried to add not too much, now see it is much better like this! I could get through a small portion but not an entire mug (I'm doling out tea with a ladle from the original mug into a small cup). The texture is doable but I'm still not appreciating the initial "wave" of dairy smell nor the aftertaste but i gotta say that the milk helps take the edge off of the tea & lets the lavender take the spotlight which is very nice! 5.5/10 with a touch of honey it's went up to a solid 6.5/10
With more sugar: that's it that's it! Sweet tooth strikes again, this is 5 heaping spoonfuls of sugar & it's a solid 9/10!
Sugar+lime: well that's almost a disappointment, should've been more careful with the dosage of the lime cause it put the lavender straight to the backseat unfortunately, like I can still tell she's here in spirit but definitely not in her deserved spot front & center. This is sadly gonna be an 8/10
!Actually! After a bit of time where my tongue reset, i found that the lavender comes through very nicely, so 10/10
