A/N: This is a fic to go with @permo2003 wonderful Macaque and MK Art
Having the ability to listen to so much was more often a curse than a blessing. Usually, Macaque's favourite weather was rain. The pitter patter of droplets falling muffled out most other annoying sounds, often giving the six-eared monkey some sense of calm.
But tonight, it didn't matter how much he tried to tune it out, past the countless drops and drips of water tapping against leaves, stone, and creatures of all kinds. Six Eared Macaque heard the sniffles and whispered pleads from MK.
"Monkey King... He'll come back..."
"He knows I need him..."
"...He'll be here soon."
The Shadow demon hated how unwaveringly loyal the kid was to Wukong...
"Please Monkey King come back"
But what Macaque hated most of all, was how the kid would remind him of his old self.
"Please Wukong come back...." Begged a small black fur monkey huddled under a tree, as bone-chilling winds howled around him.
MK was starting to shiver so much that Macaque could literally hear it.
"...I can't do this alone."
"I don't know what to do..."
"I need my teacher."
Macaque inwardly cursed hearing those last words. The dark-furred monkey fazing into his own shadow and reforms on top of the kid's shadow.
The demon knew he wasn't the teacher that MK was seeking, but he would be the teacher that heeds MK's call. Lifting his cloak over his student and pulls the soaking wet, shivering kid to his side.
Mk didn't reject the gesture, rather, the kid full-heartedly welcomed the sudden warmth. The kid's trembling fingers cling tightly to his robes. The shadow monkey could feel his student's ice-cold digits through his clothes, a testament to how truly long the stupidly loyal kid had been out here waiting for Monkey King's return.
Macaque briefly wondered if he would have clung to someone, anyone who had shown him some warmth when he pleaded to the winds for Wukong to come back.
"He's not coming and..." Macaque began, Mk's voice hitching at the shadow demon's words because deep down- "you know that." the demon stated.
The only reply the monkey demon got from his student was the boy's shaky grip tightening on his robes.
"Wukong isn't someone you or anyone can rely on" Macaque informed, regrettably speaking from experience as he looked down at the kid, seeing the pained frown on his student's face.
This seemed to be the lesson anyone that got too close to Wukong had to learn the hard way and a lesson the demon needed to get through to his student.
"It's time for you to think about yourself" Macaque somberly implored the kid.
MK mustered up a nod, tears streaming down his cheeks as he buried his face into the shadow monkey's side.
The demon could do little more than sigh into his scarf, looking out to the horizon as he held the kid to his side, letting the boy release the tears he had been holding in for who knew how long.
As the rain began to pour down harder onto the two of them, Macaque gently patted his student's side. "Come on kid, let's get you somewhere warm" The shadow demon beckoned.
Macaque carefully held his robe over his student, protecting the boy as much as he could from the pouring rain and cold winds. MK walking in step with the demon, clinging tightly to his teacher's side.
