okay. to expand on buck sucking shit at sports. i do think he Tried a lot of sports when he was in school. because that’s how you make friends and get a sense of identity when you’re a boy who looks like that in suburban middle class america. and he was so attention starved and touch starved and teamwork starved that it does not surprise me at all that he was a Tight End or whatever because even if he whiffed it every time he still got back slaps and butt slaps and towel snaps in the locker room and probably got a weekly stern talking to from an overworked mid-30s history teacher/football coach who he projected way too much onto and used as a stand-in for his daddy issues. and was subconsciously inappropriately in love with.

And what about in the near future when buddie are FINALLY together, buck and Eddie are doing that gross couple thing where they start teasingly calling each other more and more ridiculous pet names so when buck is unloading the dishes and calls Eddie for help or something, Eddie teasingly says "Put me in, coach" and suddenly Buck gets flashbanged by a series of increasingly mortifying memories of his debilitating crush on his teachercoach. It's so bad he has to do that thing where you sort of just put your face in your hands and scream for a bit. Hindsight is 20/20 baby and your sixteen year old self is NEVER done embarrassing you.

oh my god HUMILIATING in hindsight he is like god. God!!!! I have to find him on Facebook. I need to apologize to his wife. I have to send him a fruit basket to atone. and eddie is like well. don’t you think looking him up and tracking him down and sending him gifts after 15 years might send a mixed message. and buck is like Eddieeeee stop you’re literally making it worse. and to top it all off he burns dinner because he is so distracted rip

Oh I bet Buck was the best boy on the team, always staying behind to help Coach pick up the cones after practice.

omg he loooved picking up cones 🥰 and he can help keep teachercoach’s papers organized too, he’d be SO good at filing. honestly he would have been a way better team manager than player but then he wouldn’t have gotten as much attention, and he loves attention. and when he stayed back teachercoach would usually switch to calling him Evan like he does in history class instead of Buckley like he does at practice. and when the switch up happened buck would always say 🥺 at first in a weirded out way because the context was off but eventually in a desperate for it way because it felt more personal. he also btw stayed after class to ask questions about his history homework even though it was the one class that he consistently had an A in

We need to bring back oc culture in fandom,,, tell me more about the overworked coach that baby Buck imprinted and projected all his issues onto. Seriously, that sounds like SUCH a cool outsider POV idea. Every time bucks daddy issues/abandonment issues are explored I am SAT!!!

okay hell yeah if I have to take up the mantle of being the buck/omc person in this fandom i WILL. i think first of all, because buck is like 16 or 17 or something, this is a situation where like. having talked to my teacher friends about this exact issue, they can always tell when there's a kid who has a little crush on them or whatever and they make a conscious effort to distance themselves for obvious reasons. and so I think teachercoach does this too but unfortunately this activates buck like a sleeper agent and he becomes even more desperate to prove himself out on the field. and he's fast so he can kind of skate by but he doesn't really care about football and it shows. like he keeps up with the workouts no problem and he likes hanging out with the guys but mostly he is out there running with his big long gazelle legs looking over his shoulder and waiting for teachercoach to notice that he did a good job. and meanwhile teachercoach is like Jesus Christ this kid is bad at football and also i need him to stop coming to my office after hours even though buck is really just looking for some guidance. at the end of the day he just has extremely big sad wet eyes and emotionally attaches himself to every Responsible Adult Man who shows him any attention. yay.

I shouldn't say this, but in a way....Ravi looking starry-eyed at Eddie feels a little like Buck accidentally and unknowingly gave Ravi his teachercoach issues. Ravi sees Eddie as this Authority on All Things now because Buck gave him that status in Ravi's eyes, and Ravi's just a little bit enamored for it.

AHHHH buck teachercoach spiritual transference 😭 see this is the thing that is endlessly fascinating to me about early buddie, because by all means buck should have been CRAAAAZY for so much longer. because look how he treated ravi as a probie. but nooo eddie was never Probie even though he came in right after buck's probation ended. instead buck just rolled over and showed his belly and said 🥰🤭 and let eddie start bossing him around. and then transfers this to ravi, who does not have buck's same hardwiring re: older male authority figures, but he DOES have eyes and a heart. and eddie has big giant tiger paws and a gentle yet authoritative demeanor <3

What if. Eddie volunteers. To be the alternate baseball ref or w/e at chris's school. Mustache. WHISTLE ON A LANYARD AROUND HIS NECK. tucked in polo. Socks up to his calves. CLIPBOARD?? and he's enjoying it and chris is rolling his eyes BUCK IS WALKING ON HIS KNEES OVER SHARDS OF GLASS he makes eddie keep the lanyard ON!!!!!!!!!! When he jumps him later and eddie's just like. Is It The Whistle?

BUCK MAKING HIM DO TEACHERCOACH ROLEPLAY 😭 he tries to make eddie keep the polo shirt on too but eddie is like No I have to wear this to the game on Friday I can't get it dirty. and buck is like oh my god say that again, already taking his clothes off.

ooh the bobby + teachercoach parallels bring such strong background explanation to bobby choosing eddie for buck too. after swerving buck's millionth text seeing what he was up to bobby was like....i have GOT to find this man a friend his own age......he should exudes an air of authority....and put up boundaries that buck could break down

(of course this could happen post a buckbobby incident or almost incident that makes bobby panic)

this is truly a rich tapestry that we’re weaving here. bobby sees the shivering chihuahua energy that buck is exuding and knows on a fundamental level that what he really needs is a calm firm patient hand that will grab him by the scruff of his neck when he starts snipping at people’s ankles. and lo and behold who has just finished the academy?? calm firm patient single father eddie diaz who has big sad eyes and experience with giving out military style discipline. yay 🫡

Teachercoach calling buck 'Evan' to start preempting a boundary,,, sighing while he examines ANOTHER twisted ankle, looking up in exasperation at a fidgeting buck: "We talked about this, Evan." Buck sort of shrugging, not meeting his eyes. Teachercoach meeting bucks parents during the annual parent-teacher conference and having an "Oh. 😑" Moment,,, HNGHHHH you have given me the brain worms the likes of which I have scarcely felt before

well and you see; buck did not become buck until much later, he was always Evan when he was younger. but teachercoach maybe calls him Evan in history class and Buckley when they're out on the field and so blending Evan with sports injury examination time is actually kind of a mistake on his part. because buck then says 🥺 I know I was bad, I swear I can be better next time, I'm sorry 🥺 because his brain shot into panic mode at being called the wrong name out of context. yay.
