do you ever think about how...unformed buck is at the beginning of the series. just so lost, no ties, no roots, no goals other than trying something new in yet another place, aimlessly seeking something and even the "buck" of it all is so newly hatched and has no real meaning yet. and then there's bobby who's almost the same but with the weight of a man who had those ties and roots and goals at one point in life but burnt it all down himself. he's as lost, as aimless, as confused about his identity. and then they find each other and they save each other and they keep saving each other and bobby becomes the ground under his feet for buck while buck becomes the place for bobby to put all that love and care he forgot about in his guilt and yeah. yeahhh

Lawsuit era AU where Buck was reassigned to another station because Bobby’s concerns were not everyone’s concerns and so the actual lawsuit never happened but in some ways the fallout was worse.

This is more Buck and Bobby focused, sorry if that's wasn't what you were looking for:

First, I gotta disclaimer that my memories of the lawsuit era stuff are fuzzy, it's been a while since I watched those eps. (plus I find that storyline kinda triggering due to personal reasons)

The RSD hits Buck even worse in a universe where Buck is transferred. Makes him feel even more disposable, that the people he considered family just let him go. (how fair or logical that feeling is doesn't matter) This causes Buck to regress into full Buck 1.0 fuckboi habits. He's not stealing ladder trucks but he gives up searching for something real, feeling this is all he has to offer.

Buck is reassigned to the 136 right before the Tsunami. So he's at the pier when the wave hits, but in a professional capacity instead of entertaining Chris (who in this scenario is safely at home)

In this scenario, instead of being blissfully ignorant about Buck's situation, the 118 and especially Bobby know he was at the pier and is currently missing. (the least satisfying part of that storyline was despite of the lovely Buck whump I got no one knew he was in danger until afterward)

Bobby spends most of the day desperately searching for him, dealing with all the hellish guilt that comes from knowing it was him trying to keep Buck safe that got him in this mess. With Chimney's help he even is able to acquire a very familiar helicopter pilot willing to help him search long after being told it's hopeless. (Bobby does break out the rosary beads at one point)

Obviously they find Buck, but the rift is still there and is some ways Buck is even angrier for being let go after a day of life-saving after a literal tsunami, and he has a blowout fight with Bobby.

Bonus: He may be upset with Bobby and the 118, but he does feel he owes the helicopter pilot for going of his way to help and offers to buy him a beer.
