If the only tool you have in your tool box is a hammer, your only hope is a nail
A quote by my sales teacher that I could not agree with more. While other people are in the clinical degrees getting a minor in psychology or nutrition, I decided to get a minor in entrepreneurship. Many peers have heard my minor and asked, “Why are you doing that,” and I struggle to put my idea into words, but this quote does that perfectly. If you add to the amount of knowledge you have, you are more valuable. If you add to the type of knowledge you have, you make yourself more versatile. You have more to offer, and you have a different perspective than someone who has only focused on learning one concept. I am learning so much in my major, and I love every ounce of it, but there’s also something about business I love as well. I have never been one to follow the crowd, and I know this is a different idea, but I also believe it is the best path for me. This teacher also said, “No matter what field you are in, no matter where you go, you will always have to sell something or sell yourself.” In a world where 50% of people are projected to be obese by 2030, and currently 75% of the population is overweight or obese, it will be a challenge to sell healthy habits to the general population. I like that I will have a better basis as a business professional, be able to answer the tough questions, and “plant a seed” (another reference from my teacher) in my patients for better, healthier habits that they may sprout later on, when they are ready. Every flourishing garden starts off with a seed after all.
