Had a moment like this today. In the movie Wargames, David Lightman's (Matthew Broderick) teacher, seeing him chuckling in class, asks if Lightman knows who first came up with the idea I'd reproduction without sex. "Umm... your wife?" Cue an angry teacher and the class laughing hysterically. Today, the accelerated class was working on Statistics. We discussed what a statistical question was and wasn't, and the types of data involved. After providing a few examples, I asked them to come up with some of their own. One student raised his hand and said, "I have one. 'How many gray hairs does Mr. Rubenstahl get in his beard each day he teaches?' I couldn't help but laugh, especially when I asked whether the data involved was qualitative or quantitative. "Quantitative, because the number of gray hairs would change each day." I'm not even mad. This week in teaching

I get an email from a teacher saying I am making one of his students late because I am going past the bell. I respond to his email professionally and the next day I pull the student to the side.

Me: What’s the first rule of my classroom? Student: Don't get you in trouble. Me: Yeah. Guess who I am getting emails from? Student: *says teacher's name* Me: Right. He said I am making you late because I let class out late. *leans in closer* Bro, you know I let you out five min early every day. Why did you tell him that? What's her name? Student: Miiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssss Me: Don't "miss" me. You told a lie and made me look bad. You broke the first rule. Student: I'm sorry, miss. Me: No, I am disappointed in you. I told him the truth and he's ripping you a new butt hole when you get there. In the future, tell the truth or don't lie. Now go do your bell work.
